Just wondering, im in high school, and im thinking bout joinin the army. should i? should i wait?

First, do not listen to agenda driven, uber-liberal peaceniks

Second, the casualty rate in the Army has been as high in peace time as it has during the Guld War(s)

Third, do not go in with a pre-chosen job or idea. Study for the ASVAB, see what you qualify for. Ask questions of current soldiers. Ask questions to your parents. Ask questions to your pastor or someone you trust. And ask questions of yourself. Then and only then if you feel the benefits outweigh the risks, then do it and choose the job that will also help prepare you for a career outside the Army. **By this I mean that an infantry man is prepared for what job when he gets out? Look to learn a job you like that means more on the outside as well. Not that I am knocking the infantry, but if you can do better, do better.**

Maybe wait until the country is not at war anymore. Although, I'm not sure that will ever happen.

Why not wait until after you graduate college then go in as an officer?? Also, are you not scared of this war?? I was in the military approx 13 years ago. I was in dessert storm..this war we are having now scares the heck out of me. Just make your decision very carefully.

Heres what I want you to do, graduate high school, join the army reserve for the smallest amount of years, if you like it you can go on active duty and sign an active duty contract. If you hate it, your only out the weekends.

Sure you might be sent to the sandbox, but thats not the end of the world, your serving freedom.

The next 3 of 4 years of your life will bring about many profound changes to you as a person. Make the most out of your high school years, then decide once you get out. No one can make that choice for you.

Well I am an x-Marine. So, the Marine Corps is all that I can truly recommend, but I think you have to look at yourself. Are you more the physical/ athletic type? Are you more the intellectual type? How important is college to you? If you are absolutely 100% sure that you want to go to college... YOU SHOULD GO NOW!!! The longer you put it off, the more likely you will not go.

I commend you for wanting to join the country's finest! I do want to tell you that you should run! Try to make 3 miles in 20 min or less. If you can do it before you get to boot camp, it looks better when you do get to boot camp!!!

I personaly believe you should continue with your education. One day when you retire from the army you might need another job, and you might need a GED to get that job.

If college is an option, do it. If the Army and College are both plausable option, do them both. Ever heard of ROTC? Free college and when you get out, you're an officer. If you're worried about dying, like the previous respondant, how many officers you hear about dying in wars? Do your research. It should be your decision with no reservations.

oooo...difficult question...i think you need to ask yourself the question of whether or not you are ready to kill or be killed which i think the military would ask you to prepare for that very same question anyway...my personal opinion...stay here and go to college if you have the opportunity to (COLLEGE IS A RARE OPPORTUNITY) since only 10% of Americans continue education after high school and we need more educated people in America. College for me taught me to be able to understand many different individuals' situations from many different angles and question people's intentions to form my own perspectives and beliefs...I would hope others would want the same WE NEED YOU TO STAY HERE PLEASE!

i also think you should wait. May be with a little more thinking you will realize that what the army does best is to kill and destroy. Maybe you would like your life to have more meaning.

If you wait until after college, you are automatically eligible for better positions in the military, instead of starting out as a "grunt" like everyone else (depending on how you test). I used to live in a big military town; many of my friends became Marines.
