Yes I do agree. However the problem with doing anything like that in London is the shear size of the place.
Let me give you an example of what I mean.
During WW2 my mum and me spent several nights out on Hampstead Heath watching the bombing of the East End.
What I'm getting at is that people can bomb one area of London while the rest of London carries on as though nothing has happened. This is exactly what happened on 7/7 here in London. I was actually within 50 yards of the bomb on the bus. But being a child of the Blitz I took no notice, got on a but in another street and went straight home.
The people left hanging about in the centre of London were not Londoners. We're far too experienced for that and know only too well, after 30 years of IRA bombing, exactly what's coming next. Yes, another bomb.
New Yorkers had the right idea at 9/11 - they ran away from the Towers and many saved their lives by doing so.
The worst crap advice I ever heard came from the Metropolican fuzz here in London who told people to stay put.
No chance. . . . "Maybe It's Because I'm a Londoner".

How has it been effective? Londoners are still using the tube and buses in record numbers, and our resolve has been strengthened. The bombers gained nothing from this. |

No, it was horrible. Only a sick person could say it was good tactics. It was done by sick people in the name of religion. |

I think you are looking for an arguement............
Terrorist are cowards. |

No, it wasn't effective all it did was infuriate everyone & make them more determined that the terrorists won't win. A comedian recently commented, all they did was p*ss off the commuters, if they really wanted to bring London to a standstill, they should have made it snow - perhaps Allah was busy that day but Londoners don't put anything on hold for anyone, I was on the Piccadilly line next day to go to Heathrow & I got there quicker then usual actually even though I had to change to a bus for part of the journey.
If it didn't work for the IRA, why would it work for anyone else? Guerilla tactics will only work for so long |

Well I was on the tube that day, and I have to say that it was more annoying than effective, Being killed for just going to work is an act of Cowardice. I have to disagree with you. We kept going with the treat of the IRA in London and will do with the new bunch of sissies. An act of cowardice does not rate in good tactics |

Didn't they get caught? I'm not sure that was good tactics. They were cowardly terrorist and should all be rounded up and summarily shot in the head. |

Tactics is a military term. The 7/7 bombings were an attack upon civilians.
As far as Al Queda are concerned it was a strategy - which was counterproductive because it got them bad publicity and increased the determination of those involved in the war on terror to track them down and bring them to justice. |

Cowards way of fighting. They know they can't beat our magnificant country in open warfare. That's all. |

Tactics for what?
Murdering innocent civilians and causing rife islamaphobia in a formerly tolerant and accepting country? |

no not at all. the only thing I agree with you is that is was evil. how is it "good tactics" as you put it to blow up a tube full of innocent people in it? any coward that has the know- how to use explosives could have done it. |

Define 'good'. Surely more effective would be for the perpetrators to get away not die in the explosion. |

It was most effective for the people it was supposed to be against, the Western establishment gained more from it than Muslims could ever hope for, so no, I don't think it was good tactics by those who supposedly carried it out.
It was also not effective as it demeans the whole human race that we do things like that, on both sides of the manufactured Muslim/Judeo-Christian divide. |

If the murder of innocent civilians is considered good tactics then surely murdering every Islamic fundamentalist to prevent future bombings should be considered in the same light?
Where does it end?
Do Islamic beliefs have any more relevance than those held by anyone else?
Murder is murder and those that commit, aid or abet murder should be hung, alongside the politicians and judges whose actions permit it. |

It was a terrible thing, and undeniably evil, but to be honest highly predictable. For such a small number of people to fight a war against two of the most powerful countries in the world is impossible. Before the war, anyone could have to told you that there would be patriots who would attack us in the only way that they could - guerrilla warfare. |

The Tactics were good from the perspective of spreading the fear of terrorism - Britain's first suicide bombing made anyone a target - a bit like the IRA's tactics. however, as is the nature of a suicide bombings, those responsible were killed - not a bad thing. the use of bombs in a confined space i.e. the tube makes the blast worst and in that sense they were 'good tactics'. although using such bombs underground removes all images of the attack - hence why high profile attacks on easily recognisable buildings i.e 9/11 spread more fear. in addition, the fact that British citizens were so fanatical about Islam proves to people that the terrorist threat was significant and endemic. however, the terrorists cells and such like were quickly defeated later by the British intelligence services. people need to remember that the intelligence services have to get it right every time (and you will never hear about their successes), the terrorists only need get it right once.
The events of 7/7 were an evil act against the principles of democracy and freedom. |

You really are a Dumb Ucker aren't you....
Yeah it would have been great tactics if it worked...
Or didn't you bother to do your research Again.
One mad bomber didn't even make it to the train because he lost his bottle and blew up on a Bus..
another only partially detonated...
Slighty more successful than the last lost but still crap...
Lucky there all as Dumb a you isn't it.
A Great moral builder for the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq at the time, always good to know the enemies strengths and just how crap the enemy is.. |

No I don't agree : in order to be effective the tube and bus network would have shut down completely and would be derelict by now.
What terrorists seem to miss is that their actions bring out a special kind of cameraderie and that indefinable "spirit of togetherness" and a call to fight them in any way possible.
Terrorist acts only ever have a mimimal effect - ask the IRA. |

I don't tihnk it was effective. It didn't lead to any change in UK foriegn policy or actually achieve anything except kill people, which is not an end in itself. Additionally, it was bad execution in that people involved got caught.
On your deeper point though, terrorism (called guerrilla warfare when people support the organisation in question) in general is a neccesary tactic, not necessarily a 'good' one. When groups cannot fight their 'enemies' with traditional warfare tactics, so is the only viable option. And it obviosuly was a 'good' tactic in the vietnam war, because the US ultimately withdrew because they couldn't win.
But is any violent tactic good? |
