Many women solders have come back from Iraq with PTSD?
Find answers to your legal question.

Many women solders have come back from Iraq with PTSD?

A very high percentage of women have come back from Iraq with PTSD becoming disabled and costing the taxpayers millions and millions of dollars. Does this mean women are not appropriate for combat roles.

It has been medically prov-en that women's brains are wired differently than men's, they are emotionally driven so PTSD would effect them on a deeper level. This is one of the reasons for the ban on women in a combat MOS. I personally believe that if they are physically capable to march with the same gear and do the same physical work as a man they should be allowed to fight, some women are not muscular enough to do so.

I think men have ptsd as well, but dont show it for fear of feeling weak. I think the military needs to do more for these people.
My girlfriend was killed in Iraq and left behind a 4 yr old child.
Too sad..........................

Sounds good when you put it down as only women, but where are your PTSD facts on men?
You cannot compare one without the other in war PTSD.

The same amount of men come back with PTSD too. It's 50-50.

I ♥ my Irishman!
Your statement should read "A high percentage of SOLDIERS are coming back with PTSD"...it's not only women, I know plenty of men who suffer from it too. Stop trying to bash women.

And God forbid we're costing you money when we come back from war, defending your sorry ***.

Ummm... NO. If we follow your same logic, you are not appropiate for combat roles because you have not fought in Iraq yourself.

What is the percentage rate? At what percentage should this disable woman soldiers from serving their country overseas during war?

My concerns regarding the number of soldiers with PTSD go far beyond the financial cost.
Many women coming back from Iraq don't develop PTSD. Does this mean that women are well suited for combat roles?

The men would suffer just as bad but they would be less open about it & suffering in silence....
It does not mean women are not "suitable" for these roles... It means that men still believe they are weak if they talk about their feelings...

The PTSD affects all returning soldiers, men and women. It always has happened, and likely always will happen when people have to fight wars and exist in horrible conditions.

Men and women have returned from every war with psychological problems caused by all the stress, there just has not been a term for the "disorder" until recently.

A very high percentage of men have come back from Iraq with PTSD, and the same funds will be spent on their healthcare. Seems like an uneven balance to me, money for risking their lives in a very dangerous situation.

You need to get your facts straight before you dump on women; if it wasn't for women, you would not be here. Last I checked, men could not have children.

I could bet that you wouldn't be asking this question of real people in real life....the women answering would be too intimidating to you.

Have a good day.

MissMP
The rate of PTSD is about the same for men and women alike. Also, considering these women were/are more brave than many American's, including yourself, and fought in this war, I think that coughing up some tax money for the sake of freedom is the least this Nations people can do.

As a 100SC PTSD (Male) Veteran of the Vietnam War...
I really resent your implication that Women Veterans
get PTSD and are costing us Millions...
Who is us...you got a mouse in your pocket ???
Also to the fact that Women Veterans don't serve
in Combat...

Geez wonder how that Female MP earned the
"Silver Star"...there is another Female Vet that
also earned it...then how about those Women POWS...
also the Female Chopper Pilots that got shot down
and were made POWs also...
How about those Female Fighter and A-10 pilots...

It has just been within the last couple of years that
DOD & the VA finally stood up and have special
Women's Veteran's Only PTSD Centers...
There is a super good one on the grounds of
the Dept of VA in Batavia NY...

PTSD is a by product of WAR...

How dare you denagrated our True American Women
Heros...
The Taxes you pay are nothing compared to the
Sacrifices these Women make to protect your
scrawny little liberal socialist ***...
and the Freedoms that you so carelessly throw away !!!!

The Numbers with PTSD are in fact higher
than reported...for both Male & Female !!!!

There is the very beautiful young lady that lives
in the same apartment bldg as I...
She is about 5'3', 100# (I think that is with her pack LOL)
She is a Medic...she will have Boots on the Ground
in Afganistan next week...her mission is to fly out
to the Battle Field and get the wounded...
You tell her that she isn't going into "HARM'S WAY"

Correlation doesn't necessarily prove causation. Whether one person gets PTSD easier than the other has something to do with the brain and neurotransmitters, in addition to how the the individual handles a traumatic event. Usually, man made traumatic event, like rape, physical assaults, and war trigger PTSD more often than natural disasters. Some psychological disorders are common among women, others, more common in men. PTSD, however can affect anyone regardless of who they are.

Isn't it called post traumatic distress syndrome PTDS or PT's?

I am sure the PTSD rate is higher in men then women. The reason is women can not have jobs that directly relate to combat. They can have combat support jobs and this can cause them to see things that the average person would never experience but when it comes to jobs such as infantry women are not allowed to be apart of them.

You are correct; more women do suffer from PTSD than do men. All the people saying you are bashing on women are misinformed on the facts. There is a ton of research that supports this.

Here is an excerpt from an article on women in the Military and PTSD.

Thousands of women, like the male veterans of so many wars before, are returning home emotionally damaged by what they have seen and done. These female troops appear more prone to post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, than their male counterparts.

And studies indicate that many of these women suffer from more pronounced and debilitating forms of PTSD than men, a worrisome finding in a nation that remembers how many traumatized troops got back from Vietnam and turned to drugs and violence, alcohol and suicide.

Another excerpt (different article):

In the United States military, women are three-times more likely than men to experience PTSD. Researchers report prolonged exposure is an effective treatment for PTSD and should be implemented in clinical settings.

Mmmmkay; PTSD can effect anyone, that's true. And, a lot does have to do with how the brain is wired. Women are wired to be more emotionally responsive than men; so it's not suprising that they would develop PTSD after a tramatic event more often than men. I had to spend quit a bit of time researching PTSD and everything I have read has pointed to the same findings. It is a condition that effects women in higher numbers than men in both the Military and the civilian world.
