Marine Corps boot camp should just lighten up some. the Air Force and army dont go thru all that drama.......?

Absolutely Not. Each branch has a specific mission and thier Basic Training/Bootcamp is a reflection of that. Marines are not Airmen, Marines are not Soldiers and vice versa. They are trained to do a specific job.

The Marines have plenty of people wanting to join. Unfortuntely, some of them just don't qualify.

You don't get it. The stress of Basic helps the recruits to understand teamwork. You can't book teach what recruits learn. They must stop looking at themselves as an individual and become a team. Men and women of the Armed Forces must be able to trust that the person next to them will be there no matter what. The stress that is induced at Basic is neccessary!

Edit; You'd be suprised how mush "drama" is in AF and Army Basic Training. It's not Marine training but it's no cakewalk.

Chester: Just because a man is int he AF doesn't make him less of a man. My husband is an Airman and he's ALL man.

lol i disagree...the marine corps is a branch of the us armed forces that goes to war first...they are the ones that will more than likely die...no offense to any marines...they are trained to take pain and if it is necessary die....therefore i think the training supports its purpose

Once you are commandant of the corps, you can change it. Until then, the purposes behind things are not always clear. Blanket parties are crimes. Battery is also a crime. The balance is designed to inspire the immediate unquestioning obedience to orders, no matter how stupid they appear. Given the corps' function -- the amphibious investiture of hostile shores, under fire, the training is somewhat different than the army training.

I don't agree. We have the toughest Marines in the world and if we took your advice we wouldn't have the toughest ones for long.

I don't want wimps who can't take the training to be defending the country I love. The training is what it is to keep out those who can't hack it. Period. That's why there are thousands of civilian career options, so there's something for everyone.

I am guessing you've never been to the front lines or been in harms way.

The marines are very often the first in to a war zone - their fighting is particularly brutal and relies very much more on the infantry to accomplish its missions than it does the heavy weaponry used by the other forces.

Because they are the first in - it's important that they be used to the emotional / mental / physical shocks that accompany such brutal carnage in order to ensure a positive outcome.

To date, the U.S. Marines have never lost a battle - so they must be doing something right. I am a Navy veteran and I respected the Marine Corps because their men could take orders and carry them out - there was less backtalk than in the other branches - they really are Marines.

My own training was just as demanding but we were the academic elite of the military.

The fact that the Marines accomplish what they do with as few numbers they have shows that they need and have quality not quantity.

i never got hit once in boot camp, only when the DI shoved my rifle back in my hands it accidentally hit me in the mouth, i got a split lip but it wasnt done on purpose, i never saw any DI hit a recruit either

I don't agree troll....the Army and AF (especially) have country club basic training. Marines train the few and the proud. Clearly you are neither...Some time you must tell us about the real story as to why you have such a hardon for the USMC. You must have not been on the few or the proud. Now give it a rest for the rest of this nice holiday.....

I disagree completely! Everything that is taught during Boot Camp is done for a reason. The Marines are considered the top branch for a reason, they are the 1st ones in battles, they take tough missions, therefore YES their training will be harding. It WILL require harsher treatment. They need to be prepared for anything, they need to learn to listen to orders without a single question, and most importantly they need to work as a team. And heck, the Marines aren't the only ones that have tough training. Look at SF, or Rangers, or Airborne or SEALs. Those guys have more difficult training then whats done at MCRD or Parris Island. The more "elite" your job is considered the more difficult traning & your environment will be.

Disagree, Marines are Rough and Marines are Tough. In war there is no easy way. Marines are trained in the toughest conditions to be the best. The tittle Marine is not given it's earned.

You can't learn being a Marine In a CLASSROOM environment, you slacker. You earn it through Trial, through Tempering in Boot and training.

The Marine DIs do yell (boohoo), that so-called drama sets US as Marines apart.
