Marine boot camp should lighten up a bit, how many of u agree?

i know, they get all serious and stuff, and think they are such hot potatoes. I think that Uncle Sams Misguided Children should be more like the boyscouts, and spend all their time eating brownies.

I'm an officer in the Army. Army boot camp has lightened up a lot, and it's now producing a lot of useless soldiers who are no different that their civilian counterparts, and no more prepared to engage in warfare than your average couch potato. Softening up boot camp is the worst decision any branch of service can make.

NO! Marines are trained to do very a specific job. There is a reason a lot of people don't want to be Marines. If you want an easier boot camp, join a different branch of service.

No they shouldn't, when are you going to get over yourself. Just bite the bullet, you are a big ***** and couldn't handle the head games, or enforced discipline.

No way! The training is tough for a reason. Plus it's common knowledge that the USMC's boot camp is tougher than any other branch. If you don't want it so tough, do not join the marines. Join another branch.

you are probally not a marine and you dont understand the mission. the marines and the army should toughen up a bit. maybe we wouldnt have so many pu**ys running around. no one deserves to be assaulted but sometimes you should be allowed to knock someone up their head to get their attention. now we allowing people of questionable character in the only thing they understand is a good slap upside the head. we do what we do to protect your rights. we are here to protect democracy not practice it. stay out of our job and we wont tell you how to do yours. whatever it is. i sure hope with that attitude your not a marine. however did you ever make it.

It seems everyone here disagrees with you, "Beaujock". No surprise, considering your motivation for even asking this question in the first place is because you washed out of training.

If anything, the training needs to return to what it was before the 60s, before the enroachment of political correctness. "Lightening up" in training produces useless troops, worthless to the nation.

Not one bit. The training is tough because they may be called upon one day to do a very tough job. The military would do a disservice to its troops if it failed to train them for such situations.

I do not agree at all. The boot camp with the least number of causalities among its graduates is the USMC boot camp. There is a reason for that number.

NO!!! they actually need to get harder because how would you like to be at war with someone who made it through boot camp but so could a 5 year old!!! the reason they are hard on us is to make us think while crazy crap is happening around us. if you can scream out all 11 of your general orders in order without hesitation while you are being swarmed by 7 drill instructours screaming theit heads off at you you know you can think of the best possible plan to get your marines out of the battle field all alive while bullets are flying past your head i made it through marine boot camp with no problem the drill instructors may not show it but they care about you they show it when they give you the eagle globe and anchor ant your graduation that is the stupidest think i have ever heard "drill instructors lightening up" do you want us all to get killed out in iraq! they do that for a reason SO WE DONT GET KILLED!!! people lie you are the ones that complain about the drill instructors being to hard on the recruits but then complain that they didnt have enough training when your incompetent lazy son who cried in boot camp gets killed because he was stupid and didnt keep his head down in battle!

No, I do not agree. I think that most of the "boots" coming out of boot camp have had it easy enough and because of this it is making them beligerant. Beligerance is how people get killed in combat.

I think it should go to the way it was before the newer kinder, gentler, military that the bleeding hearts have made it. I was in the service USAF in the 70's and it was a joke compared to what my dad went through.

Just because you can't hack it, if that is the reason or, someone you know can't hack it otherwise, I do not know how you would know about it. Next, why should they ease up. They are training Marines and there is a certain standard that EVERYONE must meet. Because your a whiner doesn't mean they should ease up. If you want easy stay in your gym class

absolutely not. with great achievement comes great sacrifice. there is a reason why marine recruit training is tough, and there is a reason why the Marines guard the president, and the white house. Its not the few the proud the army. The Marine corps is the best when it comes to individual infantryman and Avg Marine, the corps teaches you to be fierce and prepares you to die (but probably wont...LOL! marines get it). I still cant believe the Army gets to use cell phones and go home for christmas during boot! no wonder why jessica lynch's motorpool got ambushed and captured, no discipline, they didnt clean their weapons and went to fire them and they malfuntioned, in Marine Recruit training every spare minute you have you are scrubbing your weapon louder faster aye aye sir! Reality is scary, unforgiving, it will destroy the weak, and ill prepared. if you never experienced being thrown around, beat up, worked to death, learning while doing so, and making decisions. then reality will take you, your loved ones, and what generations before you faught for. The marine corps is more intimidating to me, even while being part of it, then facing any enemy on the battlefield.
