Marine dating someone underage?

So here's the deal:

I am 17 years old and my boyfriend is a 22-year-old Marine. We have been together for a few months, and when I met him I told him I was 18 just so he wouldn't be turned off by the fact that I was underage. I have visited the Barracks plenty of times, and this whole time he believe that I was still 18... I know that I shouldn't have lied to him, but to most people that different of a few months isn't really a big deal.

However, on Friday I decided to finally tell him the truth because he deserves to know... I felt horrible about lying to him. But when I told him, he was shocked and all he could say was, "Why didn't you tell me this?? I just need time to think about it..." So that was Friday and I still haven't heard from him since...

So I'm just wondering if his reaction and how upset he is has anything to do with strict policies that the military has about dating underage girls. I know that he could get in a lot of trouble for being with me, but I'm still not quite sure about the extent of it.

I just wanted to know what you guys think about the issue and if my boyfriend's reaction is normal for someone in the military. How much trouble would he get in if anyone found out? Any information you guys have would be really helpful... Thanks!

the guards at the gate always chwcked my license before letting me in but never said anything about my age...

The problem is you lied. Not only could your lie hurt your relationship, it can also get him into serious trouble. You should have been honest from the beginning. Although it is a lie that after a little scrunity can be understood [many girls do it], in the end a lie is a lie and plenty of people take those things very seriously. Do not be full of shock if he just finds it impossible to move forward with you. Give him time to think and if he'll listen explain why you lied. If not then you just have to move on.

His reaction was normal. You lied to him, and put him at risk. he trusted you, and you violated that trust.

He can get into all sorts of trouble, including military jail. He could receive a dishonorable discharge, which ruins his military career and will follow him for life. How selfish of you to put him in jeopardy like that.

He's probably pissed because he will go to the brig (military jail) if his Sgt or CO find out he had someone under 18 in the barracks w/o parental supervision. Aside from that, he's probably wondering what else you have or might lie about.

I see why you did what you did, its a common thing. but as a marine I know what kind of trouble he can get into (brig, loss of rank, loss of pay). but I saw where the guy was talkin about NJ, well it doesnt matter about any state laws b/c in the marines any, ANY marine caught with a girl (or guy) under 18 WILL get charged for stat. rape even if the underage person does not charge them. hope this answers your Q.

It also depends on where you are. In NY, it is perfectly legal for 17 year olds. However, it was wrong for you to lie to him about your age. I remember talking to this girl and getting her number. I realized something wasn't right by the way she spoke to me. Come to find out she was 15. I was appalled and immediately threw her number out. Good thing I didn't take her on any dates. He is upset and probably won't call you. Even if you became 18 and tried to talk to him, he will remembered that you lied to him and wonder what other secrets you have. I am sorry I don't have rosy answers for you, but if I were you, I would chalk this one up to experience and move on.

Let this be a lesson to you. It's terrible that you lied to him. Worse yet is the fact that he could go to jail, and there's nothing you could do about it. My recommendation would be to stop seeing him until you turn 18, if he wants to date you at all after you lied to him.

You should be ashamed of yourself for doing this. If something had happened and he got caught he would be facing a Courts Martial and possibly a service ending career. It was very selfish on your part and i can understand how he feels. I was in the same situation. One! you lied and thats enough in itself. Honesty is the first thing that comes to mind when having a realationship. He may forgive you however this will take time.

it is the guards job to check people in and not check into a persons social life for all they know your going shoping it has nothing to do with the guards.

I think what you did was wrong and extremely immature to do because you had some sort of idea he could get in trouble. think abou it if they can put a civilian man away in jail for being with an underage person imagine what they can do to someon in the military. He could have gotten kicked out dishonable discharded and some jail time a dishonable means he is no longer recoginized by the government and loses all retirement and GI bill benefits. this is also incosiderate of you considering the fact if i were him i would never speak to you again but I am an unforgiving person like that

True, to most people that different of a few months isn't really a big deal. If you tell them the truth.

A few months is no different than a few days,
your lie put him at a huge risk of severe consequences, and you weren't mature enough to consider the risks.

Nonmilitary guests, to include dependents, under the age of 18 will not be allowed in the barracks. All guests must provide a form of positive identification with age or date of birth.

First it doesnt matter what state you are in when you wnet on base it is Federal property. Second the duty log books specifically states that no one under the age of 18 will be permitted at the barracks without a legal guardian. Third I doubt it will bother him too much if your about to turn 18. A little embarrassing to the friends. Might get a hard time b/c he could get a "real women" but I would imagine he would get over it. The one thing that might hurt you is that maybe he was planning on dumping you and now he may have done somethings that if you tell somene would get him in a lot of trouble and now he has to stick it out with you for awhile, lol thats the worst case for you and him.

Well, depends on the State you live in. My wife was 16 and I was 23. Yes I know folks! Call me what you will! But I grew up as white trailer trash so, there was no reaction for me. In knew her age and she knew mine.

bad idea to lie to him. he can get into alot of trouble for you being together. Hate to say it but, it sounds like he knows that too and won't be with you any more. Can't u get in trouble for going on base and not being 18? here in KS u can...

1st, according to ART120, UCMJ, the Age of Consent is 16, not 18, BUT, depending on your State, if they have a statute that states a specific number of years in difference, well, that could result in Civilian Charges, and then he would have UCMJ charges for other infractions (discredit, etc...)
So, let's say you are 17, he is 22 (>4 yrs) but it is legal in your State... the UCMJ is clear, no direct issues... However, I think the main issue here is )A Standing Orders about Guests in the BEQ, and mostly, YOU LIED... that is likely his reason for ignoring you now... and frankly, you seem to deserve it. Did you even consider what could happen to him by your dishonesty? Even if you did, that makes it worse, as you didn't care... so you lied.
Chalk this one up to experience, and move on, but don't try to blame the Military for it, by trying to see if we have Rules... he likely feels cheated, lied to... and the UCMJ sets the AOC at 16... and it is likely your State does as well, most States do. It be you issue, not his.

The legal age of consent for military personnel is 18, regardless of state laws. Unless you have your parents permission. If you too were caught or you turned him in, he would be charged with statutory rape, and probublbusted down a few ranks.
