If you want be the best, join the best. The Marines. They also have the coolest dress uniform. ;-)
If you go Army, then apply for jump school and Special Forces.
BTW I did 30 years in the Air Force, and nobody gets the respect that the Marines do, and they have earned it. I salute them. |

The Marines then because you went through Marine Boot Camp your not required to go through army boot camp if you go army and want to try the marines you will have to go through marine boot camp. whats that tell you The Marines is the Dream Team. When your done with the rest try the best Marine Corps. Recon. |

The Marines are the best of the best. They train as they fight, and they party just as crazy. If you want to make a career out of humping a rifle and such, defenitely, go Marines! OOOHRAH!!!
However, if you want to be one of the baddest s.o.b.'s around (and I am NOT a fan of the Air Force), check out their PJ (pararescue) program. These guys have it goin on! |

Well as usual, many talk but know nothing. Your choice is yours.
As to the statement that there are very few choices of where to serve in the Marine Corps, this is BS. The Marine Corps is not only infantry, there is also the Air Wing. There are 4 Marine Air Wings, and you can serve all around the world. The Army has very very few opportunities for aviation.
You could also wind up on Embassy Duty, Did you know the Marines guard and protect all U.S. Embassies! or you could get sea duty, Marines provide security on board ships and this allows one the opportunity for world travel also. You will can find many career MOS's that you can take into civilian life.
So there is much more to the Marine Corps then just being infantry. And not to mention the pride and heritage you would carry with you the rest of your life. |

If you want to move up in the ranks quicker, join the Army. Depending on your education level and other factors, you can enlist as high as E4 with a college degree. You can start as an E3 my meeting certain requirements that your recruiter can help you with. It takes much more time once you are in to gain rank in the Marines, than the Army. |

Marine boot camp has about a 50% attrition rate. We started with 110 and graduated 45, so that is greater than 50% (we had meaner than average drill instructors). What one already said about promotion being slower in the Marines is somewhat true. By the numbers, it is, but there are many opportunities to pass that by and be meritoriously promoted before anyone else. It is fairly easy, you just have to be squared away and serious. It is possible to make E-5 in four years, though not all that common. One thing about the Corps is the pride of being a Marine. They don't make it easy just to get in the ranks, believe me, and the discipline is at a higher level than in the rank and file of the army. But once there, you will notice that initiative is everything. Initiative is frowned upon in the army, from all that I have heard. I had an unbelievable experience in the US Marine Corps and will be a Marine until the day I die. I wouldn't change any of it for anything and my only regret is not reenlisting. Former Army folks usually say, "Yeah, I served in the Army." I can say, "I am a Marine." |

The Marines have always looked more interesting to me, a life-long civilian. They are organized to be the first ones into a problem and start getting it under control. I've read that every Marine must qualify as a combat rifleman plus whatever other specialty he or she chooses. The opportunities for cross-training sound better. And U.S. Marine dress blues are one of, if not the, sharpest uniforms in the world.
The Army, purely by size, has more possibilites for occupations and, in peacetime especially, tends to be more settled. The Army ends up with occupation duty, not the Marines, so they would get more of a chance to become involved with and knowledgeable about native populations. |

I think the Marines, my finace has three years left. From how he decribes it, it is tough, but the rewards are great aftwards...and yes they have THE best uniforms...the only thing is that it is harder and takes longer to get rank (unless your a just a pfc or lance corp.) But good luck deciding.. |

well as you probally know all marines are infantry with that said just because you want to be infantry in the corps dont mean you will be they could put you as a cook or something with the army you are garnteed a job before you leave plus min yeas in corps is 4 for infantry 2 for army four yeaqrs is along time to do something you dont like you can allways go to the marines after army youll just have to do bootcamp and ait over again but when its all said and done none of these ansews can tell you what to do you make the choice on your own |

If you're going to go infantry, I would go to the Marines. We have much better training, and we do it more often. Yes, the army has better equipment and it takes Marines a few years to get the "new" stuff. But guess what, we don't need it. We do more with less. I'm not gonna sugar coat it; being a Marine is a tough life, the Army is going to be easier.
You could serve in a variety of different places, Germany, Hawaii, anywhere there is a U.S. Embassy. You could even be the presidents "show of force" Air Force One is guarded by Marines. You could stand security at Camp David, the possibilities are there.
As for the Army going in ahead of the Marines...that's a big negative they crossed simultaneously and moved north at about the same pace. Then the Army stopped while the Marines kept on going. One of the Army generals wanted to give his guys a break, the Marines would have non of that. |

If you need someone to tell you, I would go with the Army. If you are to pass Marine Corps Boot Camp you must want to be a Marine. When I went through there was about a 30 to 50 percent drop out rate, from those who cried it was to tough. They just wanted to be in the service, not earn the title of a US Marine.
You need to sit down and think what you want. The army will give you a better life, gear and make things a little easier in general. The Corp will make you a Marine or throw you out.
Good Luck |

If your going Infantry I'd say Army. Anything else non-combat arms Marines. You will train everyday just like in the Marines, In the Army however you will get alot more variety of training and schools. All Infantry can go to Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assualt School, Pathfinder School, and alot more. Plus you can go to a Mechanized Brigade, or Airborne Battalion, an Air Assualt Division, a Pathfinder Company, or a Ranger Regiment. Don't get me wrong the Marine's Infantry are just as well traine but I would never want to be on a boat. This is not an Occuaption Army either. We Invaded ahead of the Marines if you remember correctly. And the Marines arn't brainwashed either. They are just very good a PR and are proad and good at promoting the Corp.
Edit* The Army did not stop to take a break. Although many units ran out of ammo and fuel from so much fighting. We were the first in Baghdad and had more cities to clear on the way. Read "Thunder Run".Plus I was there Marines were there later. |
