Marines + traffic ticket?

Marines + traffic ticket?

I am 17, and wanting to enlist. Thinking the Marines. I mistakingly hit someone well driving. I called the medical people. They went to the hospital and got admitted, and is fine. No life threatening injuries. They have two years to sue me though. I got a careless driving ticket. I went to court to plead, and pay my fine. Can I still enlist? I have no other bad records except that. I heard though because I have that, I cannot get a job needing security clearance. Is that true? I plan on being honest with my recruiter when I do go and meet them. So bottom line, can I enlist with a careless driving ticket because I hit someone.

Do I need to say specifically what it was for, or if I just mention careless driving, I'll be fine. I'll most likely have 2 pts on my license, so will that prevent me from driving or anything in the military? I might go to driving school to get my pts taken off. I got this ticket a month ago, and planned on and still want to leave for boot in Aug. Like I said, I've never had a run in before with the cops. I paid my fine, and went to court and plead my plea.

yes, as long as you weren't charged with a felony. But make sure you tell the recruiter when you speak to them. They do not like surprises!

Yes, you can enlist-the fact that it was an accident and there was no other charges and you took all the appropriate actions like you should will just show just that. It might be different if you also had other charges like fleeing or not showing up for court and being held in contempt of court but you will be fine and tell everything like it is. Make sure you have three good character references and their addresses, phones numbers, and their permission to use them as such and you will be fine for any clearance if that is all there is.

Don't hold me to this but I recently joined the Navy as did a friend of mine. My friend had a ticket as well. Usually, you need a CO approved waiver for tickets and such depending on how long ago the ticket was issued. If it was two or more years then you shouldn't need a waiver but if you do, I wouldn't see any problem with the CO approving it, depending on his/her impression of you. I see no problem with you joining but that is The Navy, I am not sure if the Marines are different. Just be honest with your recruiter and Good Luck!

Yes you can still get in and that will not stop you from getting a clearance. Talk to a recruiter.
