May be a dumb question.. But in the U.S. Military...?

is there any duty that does not involve the use of weapons?
Additional Details
Well the USCG I am interested in. What about the duty as a Medic. Serg. in the Special Forces? Thanks.

sort of...going through basic you will be taught about using the weapons and in the Army, most jobs are deployable and while over there, you carry a weapon

I'd consider the Navy or Air Force

All the above is true, but do expect to be trained in the use of fire arms in basic training.

Every soldier receives basic rifle training.

Yes, but we are all trained to be soldiers first and if needed to carry a weapon. Someone mentioned the medical corps, every medic or combat lifesaver I have ever worked alongside carried a firearm of some sort. Even people in marching band must qualify with the M16 or M4 on an annual basis. You can be a conscious objector and not carry a firearm but if the enemy pointed his weapon at you are you going to let them kill you?

Mrsjvb
EVERY single job has the potential of requiring you to pick up a weapon and defend something. . everyone is initially qual'd in boot camp.

N O, Everybody in the US Military are required to go
through weapons training and will be issued a weapon at your permanent duty station!!

In the Army all enlisted MOS's weapon marksmanship for promotion points.

Hon, any MOS in the Army, USCG, Marine, Navy, Air Force, will have some form of weapons training, after all the need is greater in the military to have well trained personnel. Ask yourself this: What if I was in trouble and needed help to get out of it and the guy (your battle buddy)next to you did not have weapons training and the trouble you were in involved the need for a weapon to be discharged and he/she had no weapons training or took his/her weapons training lightly?

I believe you meant to type Sargent and if you did you don't go to the military and get trained right away to be a Sargent, you must work your way up the ranks and he/she who earns their stripes to become a Sargent has had weapons training and must know how to use those weapons to his/her advantage.

Oh heavens yes. There are thousands of jobs that do no involve the use of weapons.

for every person on the battle field, there are 5 people behind him making sure he has what he needs from food to equipment,.....logistics might be a good field to get into,.....

Insane
Hundreds of Jobs in all branches do not involve the use of weapons.

In the Navy some one has to power the ship, cook the food and do the paperwork. none of these are done with a gun.

The Navy or the Air Force would be the place for you if you want to Join, but don't want to shoot.

Yes, you can be a Programming Apprentice, Engineer, Air Traffic Controller, Radio Transmission Apprentice, (I dont know the name) or someone who reads the transmissions that come out from other contries like North Korea or Iraq.

Sure. There are a lot of support jobs for all branches of the military. I bet if you look into the Coast Guard or Air Force you might like what you see. Being an enlisted flight crew for either branch rarely requires use of weapons and is pretty cool.
