McChrystal's comments inappropriate but should he be forced to RESIGN?

I honestly think that General McChrystal made a calculated move here because of how hard the administration has been sabatoging his ability to win that war. By him doing this I think that it puts a lot of heat on Obama to either make the hard choices with respect to Afghanistan or most certainly face complete political failure. What will most likely happen is that General Petearus will take command and Obama with actually LISTEN to him and go along with the military strategy to clean that mess up like he did Iraq. I think that General McChrystal could of easily turned Afghanistan around but Obama wasn't allowing him to do what was really necessary. The difference now is that Obama will have to do what Pataerus says or he will get all the credit for us failing in Afghanistan.

yes it was disrespectful to the nations supreme commander. i do not disagree with a single word he said but in the military you cannot publicly speak the words he spoke without severe repercussions.

Obama assaulted McChrystals constitutional right toward being at liberty to his own opinions and truths.

What, are we goanna sack every General who tries to be honest and straightforward other than Obamaâ€™s double tongue lies and never-ending excuse speeches that he doesnâ€™t really write? No one even tells the American people the facts of whatâ€™s taking place across the ocean in other peoples lands.

Hell, Obama concealed that tape of killing reporters with an apache helicopter. He doesnâ€™t confess we are bombing Afghans and Iraqis with depleted Uranium and deforming their children generations. He doesnâ€™t confess we are killing them with drones or raping their women. Drilling out of 526 oil fields in Iraq we have tapped 125.

He never helped the 1400 Palestinians who were mass murdered by Israel as they were enclosed with blockades and giant fortifications with nowhere to go. He even vindicated the Israelis for carrying out carnage and slaughter in the occupied territories.

I say screw Obama and his administration.

So many civilians forget past wars and police actions ! No he should not have been forced to resign, but lets faced the truth Obama doesn't want to win in Afghanistan he wants to stalemate the situation like a police action so it can be said he was tough of terrorism ! Biden, liberals Emmanuel and all don't want to be there ! They don't want to be in Iraq but cannot bring soldiers home with unemployment high ! Conservatives don't want him there, only the military, Gates & CIA want the military there and maybe Clinton if the Generals kiss the diplomatic A$$. These armchair military ladys and gents want it done but not at a cost to them only soldiers !

How can you NOT see, that as the commander of forces in Afghanistan, how that can be detrimental to the war efforts.

How can the President show authority, when his subordinates are talking smack about him and the rest of the elected officials appointed over them? That's dissent. It creates an environment that can eventually undermine the President's legal authority and the unity that is required to work through the war. You're either 100% with us, or GTFO. You don't show solidarity through comments like that.

For someone as high ranking and experienced as McChrystal is, he knew exactly what he was doing when he said it. It wasn't caught in a private moment between him and someone else...he authorized the reporter to record everything he said.

The President cannot display resolve to the American people if his generals are a bunch of loose cannons. He is the commander in chief. Regardless of your opinion on him or his policies.

I didn't like George W. Bush...I thought he was an idiot. But I show him respect because of the office he holds. It doesn't matter if it's George W. Bush or Barack H. Obama...when either one walks into a room, you stand the f--k up.

If you don't like what the President is trying to do...then you resign without uttering a word until you are no longer in the military. Period.

That McChrystal did something you just don't do at that level, interfered with domestic politics. And that even the boss of a civilian company would fire an employee who yapped about him to the press, instantly. I wouldn't be surprised if Obama was pissed as hell, I sure would be.

In the USA soldiers, including four star generals, do not publicly criticize the commander in chief. Any commander in chief. He got exactly what he should have expected.

McChrystal wanted to resign. He wanted out. Maybe they wouldn't let him, and he opted to go this route. A top general knows the political game -- that's how you get into that position in the first place. Getting to the point where you're heading "black ops," and leading an entire region is not gotten"luck."

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I find this entire thing slightly...odd.

Why would a top general give a candid interview with a not-so-military-friendly magazine?

Why would he risk his career over it?

Why were they allowed into the hotel room, where arguably there is secret/top secret information around. In Iraq, you had to have a security clearance just to walk into the TOC (Tactical Operations Center).

Why are these grown men acting like college frat boys getting drunk, dancing, and signing?

They're with an outsider (and a journalist at that), and they think this is appropriate behavior that will shed a good light on the entire military?

It is almost as if McChrystal told them all to act as brash as possible, and put on a good show for the reporter.

I want to say that there were other powerful hands involved for this to happen.

Not only should he, and his staff be removed from Afghanistan, he and everyone that said disparaging remarks about the President and his staff, should be kicked out of the Army. That is something that you don't do as a member of the military.
