if im based on shore does that mean my husband have to be on the ship?or is it a choice?we got two dependents

You have absolutely zero guarantees. Once you both join (that is if they let you both in given you already have children) all you can do is both put in co-location requests and hope for the best. The Navy is usually fair about accommodating mil-to-mil married couples, but again, it is not promised. You will need to fill out a family care plan, this is a form that specifies who will have custody of your children, should BOTH of you be deployed. Good luck. |

You are not even guaranteed to be on the same base. The military in general has a pretty good record with putting married people within 100 miles of each other, but there are NO guarantees. You will both have to have a family care plan that covers if you were both at sea at the same time and other scenarios as well. |

You could both have shore duty or you could both have sea duty.
Just because you have children
Will not effect your assignments in any way.
Thats why you have a family care plan, so when both of you have sea duty at the same time, you have someone else to care for your children.
I hope your not expecting that one of you will always have shore duty to look after your children, because thats just not gonna happen. |
