Meeting a Recruiter tmrw, What should I bring/ask?
|
usaf recruiter-
are there any mandatory documents that i should bring? i am currently a non-us citizen, but i am a legal resident
what specific questions should i ask?
what are the pros/cons of bringing a family member(mother) with me?
any suggestions that could benefit me would be awesome! thanks in advance Additional Details yeah my mom can speak english fairly well, i went to middle school and graduated highschool here
extra details:
by getting what i want "in writing" does it mean that i have to ask for each and every benefit to get it?
or will everything be in the contract to sign?
i would like to know this one in detail thanks

You should take your high school diploma, green card, drivers license, social security card and birth certificate (certified copy).
You should be prepared to discuss any medical conditions you have or had in the past, any history of drug use, any issues involving the police (including traffic tickets). This will help him determine whether there are any disqualifying factors.
FOR GOD'S SAKE.... DO NOT LIE TO THE RECRUITER.
Ask him if you can take the practice ASVAB test. It's only about 30 or 40 questions and will help him evaluate you and what jobs you might qualify for.
Understand in advance, he can't/won't promise you anything. His job is to screen you and send you to MEPS. At MEPS you'll be given a complete physical examination and full ASVAB test.
If physically qualified you'll meet with an Air Force classifier. The classifier will be the one to offer you various jobs and programs based on the results of your ASVAB test. You can't be offered a job that you are not qualified for and you can't be offered a job that's not open.
If there is a job offered to you, and you want it, you will be able to enlist into the Delayed Entry Program. You will wait in Delayed Entry until the date you ship out for basic training. Delayed Entry is not active duty and it's not the reserve. There's no pay and no benefits. You can actually quit Delayed Entry at any time prior to leaving for boot camp.
Your enlistment contract will be 4 pages long. Read it from start to finish. Ask questions about anything you don't understand. Anything NOT on that contract is not guaranteed.
Finally, if you are qualified for a job, but the job isn't open, you can leave MEPS and come back again, later. You should ask your recruiter what time(s) of the month MEPS gets their new jobs list and go on that day. Don't let the classifier pressure you into enlisting for one job with a promise that you can change later. The classifier is like the "closer" at a car dealership. He isn't your friend, he's a salesman. He doesn't care what job you take. He just wants to close the deal.
Understand, you are the guy driving the train right up until you enlist. After you've enlisted you no longer have any leverage.
Best of luck. |

Ask any questions thats come into mind. Even the ones that you think are silly. This is not of the weak of heart and you should try to find out what you have to do. Don't mind what others say about not joining those guys are just well "weak" thats the only word for them. If you feel you can make it thru and you want to then do it. |

Bring a photo ID and your green card. Bring lots of paper to take notes and write down everything he says. Do not bring anything else. And God no!! Do not bring your MOMMY!!
However, this is not the best time to be looking to join the USAF. The USAF is downsizing 40,000 people over the next year or two. (August 2007 issue of Air Force Magazine.)
Unless you got something really special to offer, (do you speak Arabic or Chinese fluently?) your chances of getting in are pretty slim as compared to the Army or Marines, both which are expanding. Also, sign up bonuses and benefits are not as good with the USAF as with the other two as the USAF is doing just fine with recruiting and has more than enough applicants. |

Bring your green card and your resolve to become a Soldier / Sailor / Airman or Marine.
They can direct you from there.
You might visit the website for the service you want to join, so you have an idea of what you want to do (M.O.S.) and any and all other documents in your possession (birth cert, driver license, passport, diploma etc.) to save sending these later.
If your family would like to come, or you want their advice or approval before completing a contract, bring them along. You know your family better than me, so use your own initiative. The recruiter won't mind and I'm sure they would be pleased to have them, or not, as you wish. |

When meeting with the recruiter bring the following things. I.D. social security card, transcripts from college or h.s. diploma.
Questions you should ask. If you know what job (mos) you want in the military ask lots of questions about the training, where it is, how long it is etc. Ask about enlistment bonuses, length of service required for the bonus and most importantly do not sign anything until everything you want is in writing. Good luck and Thanks for serving our country. |

Bring obviously yourself and a positive attitude.
What are your plans while in the USAF?
Have you taken the ASVAB?
Recruiters do sometimes lie so don't take whatever he says as the final answer.
When and if it comes down to you signing up to join, anything he tells you and promises be sure to get in in writing and on the contract.

I would not worry about bringing the documents to the first visit, if they do they will think they all ready have you hook line and sinker. Trust me, they will cater to your needs to get you in. Ask any and all questions you may have no matter how insugnificant it may seem.
As far as bringing your mother, make sure they will list her as a dependant of yours on the contract and later on you DD 93. If she does not have dependant status they could cick her out of on post housing, PX privlegaes, Commissary privleages, or in some cases acsess to Base. It is the upmost importance that they get her dependant status if you want to bring her along. Also realize you will have to provide documents and proof that she needs to be your dependant. When dealing with the recuiter realize they are trying to reach a number of recuits per month. Do not let them pressure you in to anything. I singed up the first time I went to the MEPS center, I did not realize I could just walk away and hold out for something better. My friend did that and I said "if only i knew that. Think of them as used car salesmen " Once you see the first time, everytime you deal them they will bend and twist them to get what you want out of them. It may take a few visits but i will pay you back ten fold in the end.
Bottom line dont rush in to anything, Take time to make desicions, Ask all questions, And make sure it is in the written contract in the end.
God bless America, and thank you for chossing to serve!! |

High School Diploma, I-551 Card (Green Card), Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, and list of questions that you want to ask your recruiter. Trust me, write down the questions in advance so that you don't forget when you get the information. I know, I am an Active Duty Army Recruiter. When we give you the information, most are overwhelmed and forget to ask the questions that they originally had. You will be fine with what you have. Also bring the names, addresses and phone numbers of at least 3 references, and where you have lived, worked, or when to school for the past 7 years. It makes the process easier for you and the recruiter. Good Luck! |

does your Mom speak english well?
Is she behind you?
are you over 18?
if you are under 18 you can go but you can't sign anything .
You can take a practice asvab test ( hint there is a lot of algebra) in the office or online. You can also study and take it as many times as you want to. Your score determines the jobs available to you so take it seriously.
I wouldn't sign anything on your first visit. |

my only advice:
THEY WILL try to buy your deal like a car salesman
KEEP YOUR OPTIONS OPEN!
Recruiters are very pushy, they mostly just want people ti sign up so they can fill their quota, they dont really care about you after you sign that piece of paper and raise your right hand!!!!! |
