I have seen some videos with drill instructors yelling at recruits in boot camp. In one of those videos, the drill instructor repeatedly yells "F*CK WITH ME!!!! F*CK WITH ME!!!!"
What would happen if you show them a little sass? Still speaking to them correctly, like using "this recruit" and referring to them as "the drill instructor" and stuff like that, but if you're half way smart you will know what I mean.

they make you do push-ups until you can't get up anymore, then they find another exercise for you to do.
One took everything out of my locker and threw it out the window and made me take my locker outside and re-assemble everything Dress-Right-Dress outside.
When done, he threw everything back inside through the window, had to hall my locker inside and put it all back together again. All because I said "of course I'm sure". I was suppose to say "YES Drill Sergent!" |

Oh how misinformed some people are. Yes you will get yelled at. Yes things will be thrown. Yes they will curse at you. And Yes you are a complete idiot if you try to get smart with a drill instructor. What you dont realize is that they own you. You cant leave, they are in charge, and everything you do revolves around them. You cant get into anything but trouble down that path. Of course you would get very strong. I found that the best way to get through it is to do everything better than everyone else. You will get noticed but not in a bad way. Other than that, try not to exist. |

First things first. I am U.S. Army Infantry. That said. To answer your question. If you go to basic in any branch, army, navy, marines, air force, and you go for combat arms job, you will get yelled and screamed at, cussed at, pushed around, and in some cases slammed to the ground (this usually happens on live fire ranges) Every military branch DID pass a regulation stating that drill instructors are not "supposed" to cuss at you. The can scream all they want. They can't cuss or physically touch you with intent to do harm. Now, Cussing at a soldier is too far by regulation but it still happens. But i say, who cares if they cuss at you, why even get mad at it? I have family and friends in EVERY branch of the military and has joined within the past 8 years. Some, usually the female drill instructors do hold their tongue back. But as far as DS's in combat jobs, they do not AT ALL! If you answer them in any way they do not like, they can "smoke" you ( physical training until you cant move) all they want.
Also, pretty disrespectful of the young marine over there to call out an E-7 who more than likely has more time over seas than he has time in service all together. I respect all branches. Even a cook in the navy has more balls than 80% of Americans who never even tried to join. |

The movies you are watching and getting this scenario is just that..a movie. Basic training, Drill Sergeants and the individuals that volunteer to join the army in a time of war are all very professional. As a Infantry Drill Sergeant I do not have time to play games with privates trying to test the system. I am responsible for training and preparing Americas Sons to face a fearless enemy in less than 15 weeks. With that said, I can guarantee you that if you tried any of that stuff, the drill sergeant would have some smart *** comment to throw back at you and make the whole platoon laugh |

the days of yelling abuse is gone now i was in the army 1987 and yes there was a lot of yelling but i believe that's gone now but don't ever answer them back you will regret it |

edit: i said the army is not like that.... not the marines.
yes.. the army is soft because they don't scream and curse at you while in basic training.. wow. let's all get our socks filled with oranges. while i'm getting thumbs down my husband has been through air force and army basic and nothing like this ever happened to him. **although he is intel, not infantry or anything like that** i applaud and respect all of our marines but i do the same for every other branch of the military, and i don't like it when people who are supposed to serve for the same causes claim they are better or "tougher" than others.. no need for that. |

That's fake. The drill instructors don't swear at the soldiers. They yell and they scream, but they don't belittle them in ways like that. |
