For those of you who have been in the military, have you had any experiences with military groupies? Do you enjoy getting the attention or turned off by it?

Not to sound self righteous, but when you stand a chance of getting killed or seeing your friends get killed doing your job, you develop a lack of tolerance for the sort of person that is infatuated with uniforms and such. Yes, you can pick up girl in bars if you wear your flight jacket, USMC t-shirt, or whatever. However, the sort of people you meet like that tend to be folks you don't really want to talk to. I spend enough of my time in combat boots--while I'm happy to come on this website and offer my thoughts to people who are interested in the military, I try very hard to forget about work when I'm not doing it. While I don't every see myself having a close relationship with someone who hates the military, I also don't see the military as reason enough to be close to someone. All of the friends in the air force I have are people that would be my friends regardless of what they did for a living.
If someone wants to be my friend just because of the clothes I wear to work, or my haircut, I probably don't want anything to do with them. |

I'm female and a former Marine.. I also don't drink, so I was designated driver and saw this all the time when out with my Marines.... I used to tell them.. Never buy a car right outside of base.. and never date a girl right outside of base. Yes, the males loved it. Especially the young ones that didn't know any better and never really had any female attn. as one poster stated... it's more prevalent overseas.... |

The military groupies are really bad overseas, and I saw it the whole time I was in Germany. Most of the male soldiers loved the attention and I never understood why some of them would become so close to the local female Germans when it was obvious they wanted the green card. Even in the states I do not like the attention because in my opinion it is just a job soldiers have chosen to preform. |

Only in Germany. But you wonder if they are looking for a green card, or access to the PX so they can get things they can't buy on their economy...
I knew one German chick who collected ID tags (dog tags).
