Does anyone agree with me that America is nosy?
Everyone wants to know everything thats going on with the Military at all times. Where they are going, what they are doing, what the plan of action is. Half of this ends up on the news before troops even deploy or things actually happen. America expresses their "right" to know, but like terrorists and other people dont tune in to American TV and find things out?
I think if a citizen wants to know every little thing that is happening with the war/military - they should join. Then they can know everything they want to.
I just think everything needs to be more private.
What do you think?
Just opinions.. there is no right or wrong answer. Additional Details I understand that people have family and friends in the military. My husband is in the military. But that is his job, it doesnt mean I need to know every move he makes as long as I get some contact to know that he is alive. I mean, what does anyone need to know the details for? Its not like anyone can actually do anything with it.. its like gossip.
And as far as tax dollars....the citizens pay tax dollars so we have an Army to protect the country. That still doesnt give everyone the right to know what is going on with every little thing.
And its true, not every military move is broadcasted... but a lot of it is.

I must say that I am on your side with this.
As Active Duty Air Force (my wife as well), its very easy to figure out upcoming deployments, and ways to disrupt them. For instance, majority on younger Airman/Soldiers/Marines/Seamen will usually post stuff like "Headed to the Sandbox in 2 weeks" on their MySpace or FaceBook pages; while posing in a picture of them in uniform (which will also have their units patch visible). Next, watch for a commercial airliner, or a troop carrier (C-5/C-17/C-130) from another base landing at the Fort/Base. Team that up with the fact that its VERY easy for civilians to get on base if needed. Just head to the local military surplus and pick up some uniforms; tell the Base/Fort security that you are military and left your I.D. on base.
That scenario is the easiest route for terrorism to overrun a government base, yet people DEMAND to know more about the military???
We pay taxes for streets to be fixed, schools to be better funded, but the military is where the hot ticket and thats what everyone craves.
Sorry, but in my line or work, and about 90% of all other military personnel out there, we have a Secret Security Clearance (and above), giving us the privileges and trust to know what is needed. Go ahead and join up if you want to see everything. We aren't going to risk going home in a body bag because we leaked out OPSEC info that is critical to our mission so that Joe Blow down the street feels better about taxes.
If you aren't dressed in a military uniform, then just have faith in your men and women because we will not fail - we can not fail! |

Well, I know where your coming from. But, I don't know if your have noticed that many members of units (all services/branches) will go against their OPSEC policy and post things about troop movements on their myspace or face book. If an operation is classified then they will have already been on the ground before CNN will have caught wind of it. Its no secret that our units are down range for 6 months to a year. So with that, it easy to figure out when units rotate. I don't agree with deployment schedules, but, actual air flow for them is classified until that day. As for people wanting to know, that is just our society and our natural curiosity. I just call it being nosy. But, it is what it is. |

I'm in the military and I don't even know troop movements. I don't care to either.
I do whole heartedly agree with the hypocrisy of wanting military secrecy for our actions, yet broadcasting them world wide.
Does the media know everything we're doing? Definitely not, but it does make one wonder what the motive is. |

I'm an army wife.. I don't really care. You have to remember the rest of America is sometimes also family and friends, mothers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles of those who joined too. Spouses aren't the only family.
Not every one can join. You can't even join with just a GED now, you have to have a highschool diploma. For the most part I don't think terrorists really care about what soldier died this week thats not really gonna do much for them. They're not going to give any information to the media thats top secret or could be a danger.
I get where you're coming though :)
edit: yeah they just started that GED thing this year i had a friend that got in a few months ago and right aafter he got in basic they JUST started denying people with GEDs and stuff so he was lucky . My husband joined with his GED too like two or three years ago. sry bout the typing I have a baby in my arms lol
edit: where are you stationed? they wont even let me on post if I forget my ID- I could a year ago but not now, I had to ask my friends to drop me of somewhere else and get my ID then come pick me up >.< man that was annoying |
