I had torn my ACL playing soccer my senior year and im graduating. I dont know what i want to do with my life career yet and i was wondering can i join the military if i had ACL reconstruction? like would they still let me be able to do everything if i didnt tare my ACL? Some doctors say the ACL after reconstruction can be stronger than the original one.

I have friends who serve and then they tear their ACL. It just depends on how you have healed, and if you can perform required tasks. You'll have to disclose this, but if you're healed, your healed. A recruiter SHOULD point you in the right direction, and I doubt you'll need a waiver. Its a pre-existing medical condition and UNLESS it affects you, you should be good. Nine of my friends tore theirs, and they are still on active duty. |

Any surgical repairs are evaluated prior to entry onto active duty. The medical folks at MEPS may ask for copies of any surgical reports and X-Rays of the area and my order X-Rays at MEPS. Your recruiter will coordinate that with MEPS in advance so that you can bring any requested information with you or have your physician send it to them in advance.
I had a Colees fracture of the right wrist about 5 years before I enlisted. That type of injury frequently results in reduced wrist mobility and can affect your ability to fire a weapon or even write in extreme cases. The MEPS folks asked for copies of the reduction notes and any X-Rays taken at the time. They also took X-Rays at MEPS and ran some mobility tests before determining that even though there was loss of function it was not sufficient to bar service.
Needless to say, do NOT hide this information. If you do and it is discovered after you enlist and affects your ability to perform your duties (rare but it does happen) you can be in a world of hurt. |
