Military base commissaries??

the baggers at the comm here work for tips. what is the proper way to tip them and do you have to tip them if your bill is only like 5 bucks because you ran in for 2 or 3 things and if you do have to tip them for that one bag. how much.

I usually base my tip on how much I buy. If you go through the express line sometimes I tip if there are items that go into a bag and other times I don't. My tip for the express line is usually between a quarter to a dollar.

For the baggers that have to bring the items to my car I pay about 2 bucks a cart. If my items are heavy I tip more. A normal tip from me for 2 carts is 5 bucks.

I worked as a bagger and it was the only job I could get that allowed me to work around my husband's schedule with 2 small kids. My tips paid for milk and bread etc. We hovered the poverty line for a couple years with his low rank when we only had 40 bucks to last for two weeks worth of groceries.
There are some baggers who are in it for the money but not all. I just wanted to mention that.

Also, I tip for the service. If someone takes real good care of my items I tip better then the one who tries to run over my heels as I go to my car cuz they are tring to make a quick turn around. I pay more around holidays also.

Last but not least, tip what you can afford.
If you spend several hundred dollars don't tip 1-2 bucks. Thats alot of items and work when they could have easily made a quicker turn around bagging for someone with less stuff.

Hope that helps.

Don't forget, if you shop there alot they will remember you. So if you screw them over the next time you may have squished bread or no bagger.
If you find yourself short for tip money write the bagger's number down and let them know you will hook them up next time but let them know before they bag for you. They may choose to leave or stay and bag for you anyhow.
I got caught with my small daughter during a horrible storm at Campbell. It came on very quickly and the thunder and lightening scared her to death. The bagger stayed with my groceries and calmed my daughter while I ran to may car. I tipped him a twenty.

If I only get 2-3 items they just bag it. I don't tip them anything. If they roll th cart out to my car I tip them 2-3 bucks. Generally $2.

Grunt
I give a dollar but 2 or 3 dollars If I have a lot of bags

The only time I tip the baggers is if they take my things to my car for me. other then that, for a few things, i dont tip them.

When they bagged up my groceries, I tipped them based on what I thought they deserved in regards to the amount of groceries I purchased.

Some commissaries may have set dollar amounts. I don't know.

One thing tipping is voluntary, a few items no, but if its a larger amount and they bag it for you a couple of dollars doesn't hurt and if they take it to your car for you then the tip would be your discretion but something would be good.

tipping is entirely optional. whatever you feel comfortable giving. personally, if it is one bag, I don;' bother tipping, but when I do my regular shopping, I average about $3.

I usually give 2 bucks for bagging, 5 for taking it to the car.

Bagging is actually the harder part of the job. So for even a few items I will tip something if they go into a bag. Not a lot but 25 to 50 cents or the change from transaction. For larger orders anything from $2 to $5.

all commissaries baggers work for tips! I usually don't tip if I only went in and got 2-3 items ( 1 bag worth of stuff). I usually don't even go to the commissary. We are stationed here at FT Campbell, KY and groceries off post are tax free and the commissary charges a 6% surcharge!! Also if I go to Walmart I can do a one stop shop and there's nicer cashiers and less craziness than the commissary on payday.....

I always tip them well, that is all that they work for...It is very hard work and they go out in some brutal weather, I always tip at least dollar even if they just bag my stuff. If they carry my groceries out, I tip anywhere from 3 to 5.

I don't generally tip if I just run in for a couple of items. If I do, maybe just some change or $1 if I have a few bags worth.

If they take it out the car, I give $2-3, depending on how good of a job they do in handling the groceries and how much I bought.

I've heard people say that they don't expect as much from lower-ranking families than from higher-ranking. As in, $1 might be ok from the 19 year old E-1's wife with the baby, but if they are taking your bags to the reserved COL parking, they would expect a little bit more generosity.

Tip the baggers depending on how much you have in the way of carts. A small order like what you describe requires no tip because you will be carrying it out yourself. $5.00 is a good tip to start with if you only have 1 cart.

monthly shopping of say 250 bucks- tip would be about 2.00 dollars

No tip for quick trips at all(they hate to work the express lane)

I find the practice onerous and it should be discontinued along with the surcharge. Do not feel obligated to pay the wages of a service to you. I would pack my own groceries if they would let me. Compared to Civvy grocery stores the DOD is on another planet.

In spite of the rant, that is the normal tip for the baggers and works out OK for them. My neighbor works at ours bagging.

i dont tip the baggers if i can carry my groceries out on my own. there is just no need for it they dont have to do anything but put them in a bag and im carrying them out. if they carry my bags out i tip them one dollar i never spend over 100$ at the grocery store anyways but i think general rule is 10% of whatever you bought.

i guess im kind of a cheap tipper if they get mad at me and squish my bread then ill talk to the mgr about it even though they are not paid by the commisary they still represent the commisary and can still get in troble for squising your stuff. they alwayse have to have a bagger there for you they cant turn down a customer even if you made them mad last week if they do then they will have a disasitifed person on hand. and the baggers actually have a head bagger there at all times you can talk too also they have a boss just like everyone else does.

I alwayse have extra change in my car incase of something happens that i dont have cash on me ill give them a dollar in change and let them know this is all i got i am not going to waste my time hunting down the bagger from last week to give them a tip sorry besides i know thoes baggers actually get better money than what most part time employes make in a week.
