Yes you are thinking of the draft. With the military being volunteer basis now you are making the choice to join. When the draft was around they were not allowed to draft the only son so that the son could carry on the family name. |

Yes, this is the all volunteer Military, no more draft, you thinking of the days when we had a draft. |
|

Mark

Only if your only son is in the military, or gets drafted. |

Yes they do... It a war right? Its country first then... |

Yes he can go overseas for war, I just asked my husband who has been in twelve years and is recruiting now for only five more months, thank goodness. I guess there was some place on the paperwork when he joined asking questions about only male or something. |

Of course they can. In fact, they are obligated to go where they are asked, despite feelings of the individual family.
A friend of mine just did two tours in Iraq even though he is the only child. |

If he´s in the military, YEAP!!! |

The military can not take your only son because then you will have no family left. You have to at least have two children. |

Yes they can. I am the only son and the youngest in my family I did sign up. I was sent to Baghdad for a year. |

Yes. They can do whatever they want for as long as they have him. |

he made that decision when he enlisted. he knew the cost, and if he didn't then he didn't research it enough. The government doesn't look to see if he's your only son, they just see the brave men and women who volunteer to fight for their country. you should be proud of him. Good luck with everything, and God Bless |

yes. There is a misconception regarding the whole 'only son' deal.
the ONLY way any child may be excused from combat duty is if their spouse or sibling was killed in combat, leaving him the only surviving person to carry on the family name. and even then, THEY must ask to be reassigned. |

if he is in the military they can. |
|

right now they cant because we are not losing soldiers left and right but look at it this way maybe if we go in to world war 3 there may be a huge chance for your daughters and sons to go to war since more countrys have bombs planes and nuclear war heads and that may be the end of the world but dont really worry about it. right now it is only volunteering. |

Did your son join the military? If so, then yes they can! |

My son signed up he was an only child. My husband is dead. He served in Iraq in 03/04. The only way he could get out of it is if your husband was killed during a war and he was the only surviving son. I'll be back with the link in a second |

You are thinking of the "sole surviving son" clause. This has to do with when another son, or more than one, has been killed already and you have only the sole surviving son to carry on the family name.
Only worked in draft armies during WWII and later. Volunteer and you void any part of it. |

Unfortunately, yes. He signed up, so he is eligible to go. |

Yes he can. And do not let the liberals upset you. Your son is doing a very honorable thing. I am proud of your son. |

I think so if there's a draft. |

Yep. It can. Especially if he volunteered for military service. |

Yes, they can. You have to write a letter and ask if you don't want them to, and give sufficient reason. If he's over 21, nothing you can do about it.
If there were a draft, he might not be selected, but now it isn't like that anymore. |

If he willingly joined to military, they can. Unfortunately, the military is fighting an unjust war against innocents. I hope your son comes back safe. |
