Military moms out there!!?

should i feel bad to leave my daughter with her dad for 5 months so i can go to the army? We were both laid off 2 months ago and we both have 60 college credits and no degree, we have been unable to get a job, we are behind in our mortgage payments and things are getting pretty bad with our personal finances. My husband did not meet the weight requirements so i offered to go. Would this be bad for my daughter?? She is 8 months old and she needs health insurance soon...

I leave this upcoming wednesday and i will be a water treatment specialist. As soon as i come back, he will be leaving. They have a program for married couples, we will be getting stationed together and if i were to deploy for sometime he will stay with the baby and he gets deployed i will have to stay with her.

Yes go because your family needs you, what if you don't go and 5 months later your on the streets wishing you took a chance. Although you may be able to support your family understand the military isn't no Sunday picnic it's tough and harddddd work. Oh and another thing while you are in the army you can study and get better job oppurtunites. It also help you prepare for future hard labor ect. Hope l helped answer you question -.-

I would say go. You wouldn't just be getting health insurance, you would no longer have to worry about housing or job security. I agree that it is hard work and you need to do this for other reasons, but it does not make you a bad mother. If anything, you are a better mother for doing this or her. When you pick your job, try to pick something that deploys less so you will be home more often for her. Did he consider the AIr Force, their weight requirements are more lax.

You need to seriously consider why you are doing this. Don't just join the military because your finances are bad, look at all the other aspects. Are you okay with the fact that you could be deployed somewhere and get hurt or killed? Is your husband ok with following you around for as long as you're in the military if he doesn't join and if he does join too is are you both ok with possibly being stationed hundreds of miles away from each other?

You could also be waiting for up to a year after you get sworn in unless you quick ship (meaning you go to MEPS every week and hope that someone gets disqualified from a job you can do.) As for feeling bad about leaving her for a few months, she's very young and probably won't really notice but would you be ok with leaving her for a year or more to go to Iraq/Afghanistan?
