Well Jonathan the purpose of the US Military is to defend the United States Of America which we so greatly love. Below is the oath of enlistment, read it then ask yourself, is the military right for you? The only person that can answer that question is you. Also dropping out of high school was a very bad idea. You might want to consider finishing that first.

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

I assume you want security, a paycheck, and structure in your life, but because you aren't really motivated for it (its OK not many are, I am though for example) you probably don't care much for shooting terrorists, I say you should join the Navy or Air Force and get a job according to your interests.

Keep in mind, not many are for the military, and once you sign that contract, they can do whatever they want with you.

No one can make this descision but you, I tried figuring my life out on Yahoo! Answers once too, but that didn't help much.

Try to pray to God, he helps me all the time.

If you don't want to be deployed you could do national guard or the army reserves so you can live at home and work on the weekends. The front line means that your in combat. Ignore the ignorant people. Im not sure about the other branches but to be in the army you need your ged. Good Luck!

enlisting!
YOU have a better chance of joining the military if you have a HS Diploma!

If you join the military, It's a high probability that you will deploy to a war zone, regardless of your job (MOS) in the military.

Front line: Where there's actual, active, engagement, fighting the enemy - Afghanistan.

Convoy: a number of vehicles, HMMV, TRUCKS,semi-trailers, lined up going from point A to point B.

perhaps, delivering military supplies to remote outposts.

Air Force- You're more likely to be struck by lightning than enlist in the Air Force without a high school diploma. Even with a GED, the chances are not good. Only about 1/2 of a percent of all Air Force enlistments each year are GED-Holders. To even be considered for one of these very few slots, a GED-holder must score a minimum of 65 on the AFQT. The Air Force allows a higher enlistment rank for recruits with college credit.

Army - The Army allows more recruits to enlist with a GED than any other branch. In Fiscal Year 2008, only 83 percent of new Army recruits had a high school diploma (or at least 15 college credits), comparted with the Department of Defense (DOD) average of 92 percent. The Army even has a special program, called Army Prep School that allows individuals to enlist who have no high school diploma or GED.

Marines - As with the Air Force, those without a high school education are ineligible. The Marine Corps limits GED enlistments to no more than five percent per year. Those with a GED must score a minimum of 50 on the AFQT to even be considered.

Navy - Like the Air Force, the Navy accepts very, very few recruits who don't have a high school diploma. To be considered for enlistment with a GED, you must score a minimum of 50 on the AFQT. You must also have no drug use, and at least three references from influential members of the community (police, fire, judge, teacher, ect.). Any police involvement, other than minor traffic offenses will also disqualify a GED applicant.

Coast Guard - For a very few (less than 5 percent) who will be allowed to enlist with a GED, the minimum AFQT score is 50. The CG offers advanced enlistment rank of E-2 for 30 college credits, and E-3 for 60 credits.

I know a lot of people who joined the military for a lot of different reasons. I joined right out of high school. I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, and the recruiter at my HS was good at his job. Be sure that this is what you want to do. It's a serious decision. I'm 24, and have done and seen a lot of things I never thought I would. Long story short, give it a lot of thought while you're working on your GED. Make sure you don't rush into anything.

I'm not too sure how it works with the other branches, but with the Marines it will be a lot tougher without your diploma. I think only a certain amount get in each year with GED. Would depend on if there are any slots and how much you're needed. I'm not sure how long you've been out of school, but if it's realistic and possible, your best bet would be busting your a** at a continuation school or IS to graduate and get your diploma.

What branch? The Marines of course ;-).
But I think the "right" answer to that would be to talk to recruiters from every branch, and that's something you should start doing right now. Definitely ask about your school so you can do whatever possible to help you get ahead. Keep searching until you find what you want. What do you think about college? I'm sure college credits would definitely help you with getting an MOS, rating or AFSC you're interested in.
The military has a lot of job opportunities.
With the Marines, your MOS (military occupational specialty) depends on test scores and what you're fit for. Just remember not to believe anything your recruiter tells you if it's not in your contract. If it's not in your contract, don't count on it. Take it from me...

Assuming that you're going with the Marines, I'll say that, you can't be sure of what job you'll get, so it's never guaranteed that you won't be deployed. Think that's safe to say with any branch. I didn't think I would. Not for the first time, and not for the second. But you will go where you're needed, do the job your assigned, be prepared to handle whatever is thrown your way, and ready to protect your country no matter what.

Hope that's helped you if even just a little. Best answers to your questions when it comes to jobs esp. , where you'll train and such will come from recruiters. Feel free to email if you'd like to ask any other questions though. Good luck. :-)

The Military is a good choice for someone who needs structure in their life. But nobody is safe from going to the warzones these days. If you are not "hardcore" then maybe consider Air Force or Army. They will test you too and suit you to a particular job. I think there is a graduation requirement though. You'd have to look into that. My sister and my father were both in the Air Force, I would have been too if I didn't have medical problems and wouldn't have it any other way. Good luck to you.

To be honest, the Coast Guard will keep you State Side. The only Coast Guard people that come to Iraq/Afghan are the ones who volunteer. However, it is hard to get in the Caost Guard and there is a long wait as well. Any other branch you will be sent out to the Middle East. There is no front line in this war. All branches that come out ehre are on convoys (Yes, even the Air Force and Navy). If you dont want to see action and you want to join the Army, your best bet would to be to join as an 88N and get stationed at Ft. Eustis, VA. They are Garrison for the most part. When they deploy, they NEVER leave the base on a convoy, unless they volunteer. I have NEVER seen anyone from Ft. Eustis on a convoy.

You can get in the Army with a GED. At least have that and you can get in.
