Military tattoo, what should I do about this?

... I'm considering getting a tattoo of the Irish Brigade (from the American civil war) because I'm Irish and joining the Army. the only question i have is this.

I'm going into the Army soon with the 94th MP. The Irish brigade's flag says "69th REGIMENT IRISH BRIGADE" across the top. So would it still be OK to get "69th regiment" tattooed on if I wont be in the 69th regiment (which is still around, just not all Irish)? or would it be better to just put "Irish Brigade" across the top and not the 69th Regiment?

I just don't want to disrespect anyone

I think before you do this you need to rethink what you are doing .. My answer to your question as stated is no .. there are a lot of different tattoo's you could use.. I suggest you not get any tattoo's until after you have been in at least six months,, You sound too young to make that decision now..

It's only permanent.... Military specific tattoos are something I would advise waiting on. If you want something patriotic, get an American Flag, , or bald eagle. Just a thought.

Unless it says

"69th REGIMENT IRISH BRIGADE"

but are you even full Irish?

My question to you is if you are not even in the Army yet, how do you know what unit you will be with? Your recruiter may have told you that you will be with the 94th MP; however, you cannot be positive about that until you have orders.
As far as the tattoo, I would wait. Make sure you really want it on your body for the rest of your life. If is is something that would have meaning for the rest of your life, go for it. Just don't have it placed anywhere that would be visible in uniform!
