I will be moving with my husband in May to his new PCS station at Fort Benning, GA. I have a BA in Psychology and am interested in working on base. I'm contacting the base tomorrow for more information but I'm wondering from any military spouses, what's it like using the Employment Readiness group to find a job? I've heard that they may even be able to place me in a job on base. Can I contact them now for job searching or do I have to wait til I live there for assistance? How soon have any of you found jobs? What are the quality of jobs you've found as well? I've found many military spouse search engines online such as USA JOBS, etc but I'm wondering if you find a job faster if you go on base in person for help as opposed to applying to jobs in the area online. Thanks in advance for your time/comments!

Personally, I never found them helpful. I went there (this was on Fort Bragg) and all it was, was some guy helping you to look for jobs online. They provide the computers and tell you what sites to go onto.
But with your degree, and a smaller pool of applicants, I bet you can find someone who will actually be able to help you. I would start applying now if you see an opening.
A lot of spouses have to work well below their degree because they cant find jobs, so approach it aggressively. Good luck! |
