Did you choose the job you have because it was convenient? Since stations may change a few years at a time, did you choose a job that was kind of universally needed?
I'm confused..there are two jobs I have been thinking of doing. One would be easier to find a job wherever we may move and the other may be harder to find..so I'm kind of stuck.
Any advice?
Thankkss!!! Additional Details lol.i was actually thinking of a teaching degree :)

If money is not that important and it is okay if you can't always find a job immediately, then you should look at what would make you happy. If there is a career field you really want to get into, then by all means, you should be one of those rare people who enjoy getting up to go to work ever morning.
If you think you would equally enjoy either of those jobs, or if you can't be left without a pay check, go with the one that would be easiest to find each time you move.
You might also want to look at what you'll be most happy doing if your husband deploys. Do you want a job with flexibility that would allow you to fly home to see friends and family often? Or do you want a job that would require all of your time and attention so that you can't think about how much you miss your soldier? |

My wife chose teaching and was able to get a job with DoD schools so wherever we are stationed she has a good shot at a decent job. Some of my friends wives work for the post exchange service - same deal there. |

I chose my career based on what i wanted to do and yea, at times i might have thought twice about it because he is in the military, but hes made up his mind that he isnt reenlisting so that made it alot more easier. If u know ur husbands going to make a career out of the military then probably get the one that u know is more likely to higher. And yes, teaching would be perfect! Cant go wrong there! Btw, my major is criminal justice... Cant go wrong there either lol. Good luck |

I already had my business management degree so I chose a job in that field. Of course since we don't really get to choose what base we are posted to and we don't live in a large city, it somewhat limited my options as far as upper management or high salary jobs. But I still am able to get jobs in different cities because my degree is so diverse. If you are choosing what to go to school for, I would recommend going for something that is needed everywhere ... like teaching, or nursing, etc. The only problem with teaching is that sometimes it's hard to get new jobs since there aren't a lot of jobs available and sometimes you need seniority to get a new job. My brother is finishing up his teacher's college right now and has told me how difficult it can be to get jobs in that line of work. |
