Missing Basic Training Paperwork Leading to Discharge

My son is a 19 year old private in the National Guard. He went to basic training in 2010, and is doing AIT this summer. His service has been excellent, and was recently promoted to PFC. The military, however, has apparently lost his records that he passed basic training, and he will find out when he arrives to ship to AIT if he's going. If he cannot go to AIT, he will be discharged. What does he need to know when he goes to ship? What should he be prepared to sign (or not sign) if they still can't find his papers and want to discharge him? Thanks. Jeff
