You stated that its command sponsored, but do you have accompanied orders, or the Family Entry Approval? You need to complete the Overseas Screening Process (this will take care of any required shots - but be prepared we got more once we got our OCONUS location as several where recommended and not required thus he kids and I got them once we reached OCONUS location), Once that is completed and you get the thumbs up, Family entry Approval/Command Sponsorship is requested, once that is granted No Fee Passports and Tickets will be addressed. You will want tourist passports if you plan on doing any traveling besides the move on official orders, as you can not travel with a no fee passport (no fee is only for official travel), be sure your husbands apply for a tourist passport also.
Your no fee passport and tourist passport will be stamped on base once you get to Korea.
Don't forget to set up the move while you are jumping threw all the above hoops!

You will receive the SOFA Stamp when you get there. Make sure you have both the No Fee & the Tourist Passport if you plan on traveling. The Tourist passport is to be used when you are not traveling on orders.

You should make sure you are up to date on all your shots, talk to the doctor and find out if smallpox is really necessary it sometimes can depend on your location. If you get a chance copy all your medical records and keep them with you in case yours get lost.

when you get the orders you need to apply for a no fee visa. Looks like passport but has wording inside about official travel on Govt orders only. You will also need to do a medical screening/efmp screening as well. Read the order if you have them. Most of the info was in them. When getting the nofee Visa, you gotta buy the photo, take it to the local passport place and they will help you with the rest. Call the housing office where you are moving to (the camp) and see about housing. If there is a wait you may need to get accommodations at the local guest house. reservations are good to have there so you got a place and don't spend too much.

The personnel office will take care of what paperwork you need. The passport and visa will be at no cost to you. Besides immunizations you'll need to have a physical to check for any medical conditions you might have that can't be treated while you're there. If you do, you won't be able to go.

Here are immunizations required by the Army for military personel and another list from the CDC on vaccinations for South Korea. They may be required for dependents. Not a big deal. Take 2 aspirin before and 2 aspirin after. It will minimize the side effects of most of them.

Don't waste your money getting your own tourist passport. Being a dependent you'll need the SOFA. You're not a tourist, you're subject to different regulations.

the SOFA stamp IS your visa. you will get that when you arrive.

the No fee passport will have the SOFA stamp in it. you will still need a tourist one for leisure travel. the No fee one will not be issued until JUST before you actually PCS.

I have traveled all over the world on my Gov't issed passport. I was not on official orders either. Dont waste your money getting a tourist passport if you have a govt issued one. I have been all over Europe, Asia and Africa and had not one problem. Have fun going to the ROK! Its a very interesting place to visit! :)
