We keep them in benefits now, why shouldn't we do the fighting for them as well. Everything they want they get handed to them, that's why there are so many over here.

everyone should serve if they doing then they are not british and should go back to the country where there parents came from if you are british and a muslim u should still respect british laws if you cant then leave.

I am sure that there are Muslims in the British Army already who are facing severe problems in their service life similar to ones which I faced in mine.
The worst I ever heard of was from a friend of mine. When patrolling in Northern Ireland he and his patrol were confronted by a group of women and children throwing stones at them. This went on for several minutes accompanied by vocal abuse and ranting. After five minutes or so my friend recognised one of the stone throwers as his mother. He never went home again.

At the start of World War 2...the Irish got out of this country so fast...it was called the 'yellow convoy'.

The young people of to-day would hate doing National Service in exactly the same manner that their fathers` and Grandfathers`hated it. It took two years out of the lives of young men who had just left school and were about to go to university or start training for a job, so their lives were put `on hold`. At a time in their lives when they wanted to go out and enjoy them selves with money to spend, they could do neither. In 1960 their pay was 38 shillings a week ( Â£.1.90.) compared to the average wage then of Â£.15.10. 0d ( Â£15.50.)
With regard to who joined, it was compulsory for all medically fit men, irrespective of their religion, `conciencious objectors` still had to do national service training, although in times of conflict they would have worked as a non-combatant.

However, there is a little known and very interesting fact in all this. The records show that( although there was no official ruling) very few black men were recruited to do national service,( despite the heavy immigration at the time.) Also there were no non-european officers allowed, and Northen Ireland, despite being part of the UK was excluded from conscription, on the grounds that as the Irish were mainly Catholic, and it could cause unrest.

So bearing this in mind, do you think that certain religions would be excluded
in any future conscription ?
Do you imagine that young people will want to earn a very low percentage of the national wage to train how to serve their country. From what I read on here too many young people don`t care a toss about their country. ( Thank God that the majority do care.)
National Service, despite what a lot of you may think, is not the answer to our problem of religious fanatics, in fact it could help them by giving them an invatation into army barracks,.
I wish that I had the fore-sight and the brains that are necessary to solve this problem, unfortunately along with others I do not.

Until such time that Country is place first and religion second in our priorities then we will never have a united community.

I say balls to them,no matter who they are if they want to live here and call themselves British, well they can join the Army just as us true Brits would do.

I dont know where people get their ideas from?there have been Muslims,Hindos,Irish catholics who have served in the british forces for centuries and have served well even when put in the postion of fighting people of there own religion.When Turkey declared a holy war against the allies in the WWI Indian moslims and French North African troops fought them at Gallipolli.I served in the Persian Gulf with arab troops fighting Arab rebels.Muslims will fight Muslims I live in Turkey and there arent many Turks who wouldnt fight Arabs

The army has an equal opputunities policy, which states that people from all ethnic backgrounds can enlist. I think that this is fair in the world we live in today. If somebody from an ethnic minority refuses to serve, then send them back to their parent country to serve there. They should have their british passport revoked, etc etc. To live in this country,you should be prepared to fight for it. End of. If a brit refuses to join and doesnt have a good reason, jail them.

I remember a Draft dodger from the 60s, the way he keep from going to jail or the military was, he became a Muslim. He told the court ;Muslims dont belive or fight wars!: This guy was a boxer way back then what a hero.

I would expect a high percentage of people of all ethnicities would refuse any such "National Service".Unless we really did have to defend ourselves ,unlike many of our recent wars in Iraq ect,which had nothing to do with Britains defence.But everything to do with someone else's oil.

They will join in or be punished, why should they be able to pick and choose what they want out of the country?
I quite like the sound of a national service here, it might do us some favours...

well lets see. there are muslim soilders here in the us as well as british. unfortunatly there are sects in islam. the quran says that killing another muslim is like killing the whole umma. this means all muslims. i would personally not fight other muslims because i refuse to fight against people of my own faith. especially when i feel they are right. how ever as an american if we were to go to war with china or russia i would be right there.
