My Husband is deploying in a few days....?

Ok the first day of his "active guard" service for training to go to Iraq was December 1, 2008. The orders state no more than 400 days, etc. They are saying that he comes off active duty orders April 16, 2010. How can this be? Is there a difference between being on Active State orders or Federal Orders, which he was officially on February 12, 2009 during his training in Mississippi. He will probably deploy on the 15th or 16th. This seems to exceed the 400 days. Based on your experience, when do you think the unit will come home, also considering the situation in Iraq right now. They are basically going to be sitting around doing nothing inside of a very nice base just south of Baghdad. FOB Falcon, I believed. Anyone who has ever been deployed there who can let me know what it is like. All info is appreciated! Thanks!

All of his premobilization training does not count. Those two weeks he was gone a couple times last year or early this year, for example. The first day he was on Federal Active Duty in preparation for movement to the mobilization site (where they do the 2-3 months of training prior to deployment) was 1 of 400. Expect eight to nine months in theater while in Iraq. He should be out of Iraq, back at the mobilized site, demobilized and back home right before the anniversary of his mobilization. The 400 days is designed to include the terminal leave afterward. It is current policy that a Guard/Reserve mobilization does not exceed 1 year. I have not seen or heard of this policy being violated (self included) since 2007 or so.

Dates mean nothing...they can change at the whim of the command. Rather trying to figure out if they are wrong or right, count on the date they gave you and adjust and plan for that (even that can change).

My son is there now for the fourth time since 2003, I got an email from him this am (he is an 11B) he says that it is a cake walk there and that the soldiers have it easy in comparison to his first time there. He says its a nice life! So quit worrying!
