My biggest hero was born today, how about you?

Holland McTyeire "Howlin' Mad" Smith
Birth: Apr. 20, 1882
Death: Jan. 12, 1967
United States Marine Corps General. A career Marine Corps officer, his nickname, "Howlin' Mad" Smith, was given to him by his troops in the Philippines in 1912. In World War I, he was detached from the 5th Marines and served as assistant operations officer for the 3rd Army during the occupation of Germany. At the start of World War II, he took command of the Amphibious Corps, Pacific Fleet as first commanding general of the 1st Marine Division Amphibious Corps. From September 1943 until the end of the war, he commanded the Fleet Marine Force in the Pacific Islands campaigns through the Gilbert Islands and the Task Force 56 at the Battle of Iwo Jima. He retired a Four Star General on may 15, 1946.

My biggest hero was born 17 years ago. My son. And I will not tout the Military to him. I'm a former paratrooper, 101st., and I served in Viet Nam, republic of, but that doesn't mean my son has to be cannon fodder. If he is determend to enlist, I will try to stear him to the Navy. Clean sheets and good food.
