It is possible he won't deploy for five or six years. Some states have ROTC mobilization exemptions for even first and second year cadets who have not contracted. He will spend the next year and a half in basic and waiting for AIT and then four years in college, then complete his officer training in five to six years and THEN be deployable. Or he could go early with his unit if he gets the itch. A lot of 11Bs get the itch. You need to stop worrying about stuff that is out of your control and isn't that bad anyway. You should be more worried about falling asleep at the wheel or getting creamed by an idiot coming out of your High School parking lot tomorrow rather some conflict that may or may not be happening in five or six years.

i wouldnt believe it unless its in writing. the army does have Green to Gold programs which can lock you in as nondeployable but you need to be in for 3 years i believe before you can do that. just being in ROTC in college does not make him non-deployable by any means.
if he wants to go officer, then why even bother joining the national gaurd? just do rotc in college

nope, a lot happens in 4 years...
and why can't he be deployed?

He can be deployed within two years if the following happen:

1. he goes to basic this summer
2. he graduates from high school in June 2010
3. he completes his mos school in August/Septmeber 2010

He can be deployed by August/Septmeber 2010. Once a guard member is mos qualified he or she is qualified for deployment. He can even be sent to another unit that is deploying.

If he wants to go to college first, he should avoid the guard and go through ROTC in college. If his grades are good and he is a good participant, he can earn an ROTC scholarship. He can even join the guard while in college (don't do it until your junior year) through the simultaneous membership program. He is not deployable but he is able to drill with a unit and participates as Lieutenant in training. He can be paid as an e-5.

EDIT: Based on your added details - yes he can be deployed until he is contracted in his junior year of college as long as he is MOS (his military job) qualified. I know of individuals who were pulled out of college.

Haha. Who told you he can't be deployed? That is a straight up lie. He is a 11 bullet catcher (That's what the B really stands for). That's a good enough reason to worry. I'd be willing to bet that he is in Afghanistan within 6 months of graduating.
