My boyfriend is thinking about joining the air force...?

& i had a few questions.
1. how likely is it that he will get the desired position?
2. do you have to be married to live on base?
3. what are the odds of him being deployed to like Afghanistan and all the other places...
thanks!

1. If he has a good asvab test score and he gets his desired job in writing and does not mess up in basic, he will get his desired job.
2. Yes you have to be married to live on post with him. He will be assigned to live in a dormitory as a junior enlisted airman. He may or may not have a room mate but it is not an apartment. If you get married he may be able to get on or off post housing for the both of you.
3. The odds of him being deployed depend upon his job and what unit he is assigned to. The length of the tour also depends upon his job and unit. |

Dump him. If he goes in the Air Force he won't have much time with you. :) |

If he's going to join, he should insist on getting an assigned AFSC (job code) before he signs any paperwork. That will insure he gets the job he wants. Recruiters will often say they can't do that or it's dong at Basic Training - but they are lying.
You do have to be married to live with him on base.
The odds of him being deployed depend on his job. If he's in Security Forces it's high. Some careers it's highly unlikely. |

He could get his desired position based on his ASVAB test scores. the higher he scores the better he has at getting the job he wants...
Yes you have to be married in order to live together on base, but you can still live off base if you want, you would just have to move to where he is. And you will be moving around alot. However, if your not married, you won't recieve any of the benefits. (the benefits are great for married couples) Plus, if you married he would recieve extra money just because he's married for housing. My recruiter recieves 900 a month, and that pays for his house payment every month. so it's really a win win.
Depending on his job will decide if he would be deployed. But its highly likely that he will be. You will need to get use to being alone and independent. |

Depends on his desired position and his ASVAB scores and if they need to fill that position.
Yes in base housing, but no to the dorms, but you can not stay overnight in the dorms even though people do it. you can not live with him in the dorms. once and if you guys get married you can get a house on base or you can get Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) if you live off base.
Odds are his AEF is drawn every 2 years and depends on his job how often he goes or what slots need to be filled |

more than likely if he has the scores he can do whatever he wants or whats open, but its his choice.
you do have to married to get base housing, but he can live in the dorms if he's single. im guessing different bases have different policies on staying over night. when my hubby was in the dorms i could stay there for up to 3 days with permission of his suitemate.
the odds of deployment all depend on his job but from what the hubby tells me is that its 6 months away and 12 months home right now |
