He is even willing to be in the army....but I tell him I dont think its the best Idea, plus he's only 18 and has his whole life ahead of him, and he's very smart and in college right now.......what should I say,and are any of you in the Army/Navy....and what would you tell him?

Buy him "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn and beg him to read it... |

He's 18, he's an adult and he is old enough to chose what he wants to do. He can finish college while serving, or he can finish college then serve. Adults make their own decisions. |

i'm 19 right now and also in college. a few months ago i decided to join the navy. i just felt like it was my calling. of course i had lots of people trying to convince you otherwise, but i really feel like the navy is the way for me. i'm currently only signed for 6 years but i'm considering navy as a career, not just a short fling. sit him down and have an adult conversation with him. if it's something he truely wants to do, then there's nothing you CAN do for him except respect his decision and show him your love and support. |

being 18 is an interesting time .I signed up in the Canadain navy when I was young.I am a self made man today. In hindsight I would have started my business career earlier and skipped the military. But when your a young buck it it very appealling.Let him do his thing. There isnt much you can tell him that he would listen to |

if he wants to do it make sure that he's ready for the emotional and draining exercise and drills. they break you down only to build you up again. It is extremely hard to qualify. good luck |

I would tell him to look into it as much as he could and then to follow his heart. Then I would support him 100%. |

I would support him no matter how much "I" disliked the idea. I would tell him I'm proud of him and encourage him as someone who wants to make a difference. Please do this. |

he hasn`t really picked a good time to join the armed forces but if that is what he really wants to do,you should support his decision.even if you don`t like the idea of him being out there in the battle field.
my husband has been in the army for 10 years and has been deployed to iraq 2 times(soon 3)so i can understand your concerns.it`s really hard at times but i`m also proud of him.
either way support his decision but encourage him to really look into it and get all the information he can. |

No. Don't waste his precious time. He can contribute to the country by other means... |

The SEAL's are the Navy. Anyway, tell him that whatever he decides you will support him. Serving your country is a very noble thing to do. You should be proud that he wants to wear a uniform. |

The Seals are an elect special forces team of the Navy. Out of every 10 men who try out, only 1 make it. That is how hard it is. The applicant are all physically fit in order to be accepted into the program. |

tell him any branch of military will end up in death. i wish i had this cartoon to show you, maybe you can draw it and let him find it. it is 4 identical pictures of a graveyard, one titled army, one titled marines, one titled navy, one titled airforce. any one you choose youll end up in the same place, and if your lucky enough to live, you are just attributing to killing other people. |

Maybe doing such things as setting up ambushes, roadside bombs, taking hostages etc.
Or would you just let them come in and take over?
