I truly believe that some people are born to serve in the armed forces, both here in the United States and in countries all over the world. I believe they are indeed a special breed.If he truly wants to serve, he is a part of that 'special breed'.

He's not necessarily crazy. He may be a patriot, and want to serve his country. He may be doing it for the educational benefits, or the leadership training that he can get. He may get training in a vocation that he can use to build a career.

Don't forget, not everyone in the army lands in the front lines. Only a small part of the Army is infantry. There are still cooks, doctors, mechanics, clerks, truck drivers, painters, pavers, pilots, and plumbers. You can learn a lot more there than just how to shoot a gun and follow orders.

Crazy? Good heavens, why would you say that? The Army isn't such a bad choice. My brother-in-law is in the Army, and he enjoys it. Like any branch, it's a lot of work, for a little money, but he can retire after 20 years and start a second career.

My former boss retired from the Army, then retired from Virginia Tech, received 2 doctorates, and is now an attorney at 77 years old. Talk about amazing.
