My dad is in the Air Force and is moving next year...Can my boyfriend come with us?

If he gets stationed overseas, can my boyfriend come live with us? I would be moving with my parents. I am 18 and he is 19.

Here's the deal:
Since he is not your father's child and he's over 18, the Air Force will not pay to fly him overseas. He'd have to pay that out of his own pocket. He would also have to get his own passport and get some type of visa from the gaining country to stay there for more than 30 days.
If your father gets housing on-base, the Air Force will not allow him to live with you because he's not a military member or a military dependent. As a result, he'd have to get his own place off-base. Now, if your father gets housing off-base, there's no rule that says your boyfriend can't live there, but what happens if your father is offered a house on-base and decides to move? Again, your boyfriend would have to find his own place off-base.
BOTTOM LINE: It's going to be a huge hassle, not to mention a huge expense, for him to follow you overseas. So you should start considering your options now (staying behind with your boyfriend, trying to do the long-distance relationship, or maybe even breaking up). |

What are you retarded? Your dad does not want some dead beat to PCS with him. You need to grow up and stay with the bum or go with your dad and get your behind in college. This is a waste of blog space.

No as he is not a legal dependent of your sponsor. |

No. Your boyfriend is not a dependent of your father. But you already knew that.
Why don't you or your boyfriend enlist. Then get married, and then you won't have that problem. |

He is an adult, technically he can move wherever he wants. The military will not pay for him to move with you guys if that is what you are asking. If you live in military housing, he will not be allowed to live with you either, unless you break the rules and then risk being thrown out. Other than that, he can go if he wants to. |

If you are going overseas to live, which would be a 3 year tour, there would be all sorts of legal issues with regards to bringing a non-dependent with you. You all are authorized to be in country that long b/c you will be on your father's orders. Your BF is not a dependent and will not be on the orders...therefore not authorized to remain in country that long. Not to mention, the military has rules about having non-dependents living with you in government housing...which you will most likely be living in if you are overseas. |

he can if ur father allows however unless ur father is his legal gaurdian (more than likely not taking age into consideration) he will not be an authorized dependant therefore will recieve no benefits and all his expenses will be out of pocket. |

If I was him I wouldn't. Overseas living with another family... and what if you guys beak up? Then he's SOL. Do the long distance relationship for awhile and see if it works. You're both too young to commit to moving together let alone moving across the ocean together. |

Unless your boyfriend can be claimed as your father's dependent..meaning he provides for all his needs (housing, food, etc) and has been doing so previously (and can prove it) I would highly doubt the military will move your boyfriend. They do not move fiances of active duty, so the dependents SO's are definitely out. Your boyfriend can move if he chooses of course...but he will have to follow all the laws of the country you'll be moving to as far as visas, establishing residency, work visas and the rest. And he will not be able to recieve health care through the military, access the base without you or live in base housing. If that is something you may consider he should start looking into what he'll have to do now..most countries have much tougher laws about foreigners living and working in them than we do. Yes, many times you'll read about US citizens working under the table overseas, skirting the residency issues by leaving the country and re-entering it every three months, but keep in mind that can be hard to maintain over a longer period of time and if he gets caught , it could cause issues for your father's career since it would be quite clear he knew about it. Plus your boyfriend would end up being deported back to the states...and that could mean no international travel for several years. |

Sure. he will need to obtain a passport and a visa for staying in the host country from the host country. The Air Force will not assist.
Also, since you are 18 and no longer a dependent, you will need to do the same. |
