I know that I will need my social security card, birth certificate, and state ID (driver's license) but since he's away does he do the paperwork and I go get the ID card alone?

I think it may depend what branch your husband is in but I know for me (my husband is a Marine) I had to go to DEERS to get my spouse I.D. You will need to bring your marriage license along with all the things you listed. You should also make sure you know his Social Security number so they can verify the information. Good Luck!
I don't know about the army but if you go to www.militaryonesource.com or call them at 1-800-342-9647 they should be able to help you... They are there 24/7 and have always been very helpful to me when I had questions. They serve every branch, including the reserves. =) |

You need a Specific Power of Attorney authorizing you to get one or a Form DD1172 signed by him to get one. They will not authorize you to get one any other way. Your information is already registered in DEERS then it will not be a problem. If your information isn't in DEERS then you can't have it entered yourself so you will need to wait until he can do it then send you teh forms. |

You should have all the paperwork u need just go to the base admin office and tell them u need a dependent's ID card. |

There are a couple of different ways that this can be worked. Since he is a Reservist I suggest you contact his unit or the customer service people there and ask that question. Many but not all Reserve units can issue dependent ID cards and do. See what they suggest and make sure you tell them that he is currently at Ft. Dix but getting ready to deploy. They can probably work any paperwork that is needed easier and faster than you via e-mail and fax and have it ready for you to get your card or if they don't they can also help in regards to this if it is done on the active duty side of the house. |
