There are local companies that provide commercial internet services at most of the larger bases. When I was over there on OIF II about 10 of us formed a co-op for a satellite internet connection. |

Don't forget, though, that he will often be terribly busy and may not have time to talk to you as often as you might like. The laptop should be a luxury for him, not an added burden on top of everything else he will be going through. Hang in there! |

Should be no problem at the major bases. There are a couple of contracting companies(Blue-something) there just setting up internet communications for morale and personal communications |

I would think it depends on where he is going... in Fallujah, we had a kind of internet cafe. Walk in, sign up and wait until a computer becomes available. I believe we got 30 minutes.
He won't be able to use a personal computer in this sort of cafe but the laptops came in handy back at the barracks for watching movies and playing games. |

Yes he can get internet access. My son was over there in 2006 and he too was in baghdad and received internet access. It is great to be able to talk to them, when they have some free time...Have him take a webcam also, if he doesnt have one already.. |

Yes he can. My boyfriend has the internet on his laptop in Iraq, but it's expensive (he pays $95 a month) and it's extremely unreliable, just to warn you! |

all depends, in Tikrit they could provide it to your rooms. But the price was outrageous, the best bet is to share it with a bunch of people. The mwr there has internet access with computers already, they might have the wireless connection. |

Yes they have internet access over there but he may not be able to use his personal laptop to get internet over the militarys service due to security reasons. My husband did the same thing before he went to Iraq.We bought him a laptop to take with him for easier access to e-mail and whatnot and when he got there he was not allowed to plug it into the militarys internet due to security risks. |

They do have Internet over there, but he may not be able to use his laptop. If the Internet is a Military connection, he will not due to obvious security reasons. He will however be able to sign into his AKO and email you from the military computers available for that purpose. Don't sweat it when you don't get an email every day. He will be busy and may not have a lot of time to do this. You also need to let him know that that's ok as he will have enough pressure on him there. Be strong and I wish him a safe return. That goes for all our troops there. |
