They do their best to keep contractors safe out there. He should be making a butt-load of money, too. Tax free money. It will be hard to be away. |

my husabnd is there with the Army right now...I say if he doesn't have to go then don't go. The contractors are pretty safe but I HATE him being away. There are plenty of jobs to do here. The money is really good over there but the price to pay, in my opinion is too high. |

as a military man, i can tell you contractors make extremely good money. my neighbor was with one of those agencies and would buy a new house every time he came back.
American contractors are for the most part kept away from danger, they do however sometimes need to travel from one point to another via convoy. They dont really face to much danger working on military installations though.
i would imagine he will make anywhere between $50-150k depending on how specific of a job he is filling. |

while the money is rather good ( my hubby is deployed in iraq) being apart for a year or more is difficult not to mention there is a war going on but contractors are a lot safer than soldiers and they make more so ultamitally
it would be a desicion that you both should give a lot of thought to
good luck |

I met somebody, who's son was doing freelance security work for one of those questionable security outfits in Iraq..you know the ONE........
He made very good money.....but in the end, he found being a target and shot at, isn't worth the risk of the fast money.
Please tell your husband too keep things in perspective, $100,000 is pocket change, if your kids dont have a daddy..... |

Iraq is a war torn country, but all countries are as safe as another. For example you can die of an IED or UXO there, but you can get hit by a car or killed by a tiger here. It does not matter where you are when it's your time to go it's your time. Now about the money I would say $100,000 and up. |

My dad worked over since 2003 came back for a year and went back. He loves it over there. He makes about $8,000 a month and comes home every 4 months. I talk to him about 3 times a day. He is in the Green zone as a warehouse manager. He told me that it is not as bad as it us to be when he first got there. And the green zone is pretty safe. |

The money should be d*** good. It's a lot safer than before, but there is still a threat there. The only decision is that he will be gone for a while, but he should get $$$. |

I agree totally with "Cool Hand Mike". Money is great, but what price do you put on safety? It is one thing to be military and have to go but yet another when you chose to go.

Money I have no idea. However, I feel anything over in Iraq is dangerous...especially wearing our uniforms. They are probably thankful that we could change their government but I think they are also pretty pissed at all that we have done. Soldiers are dying every day over there. So yes it is unsafe but you married him knowing that he was in the military right? I am surprised that he hasn't gone to Iraq yet. Don't think about the stresses of him going..just keep thinking about the positive memories you have with him. It won't do him any good for you to worry and be stressed out all the time. The best thing you can do for him is to keep making happy memories with him till the day he leaves and when he is over there try to stay positive and it will help the both of you out.
BTW...someone said don't let him go..he has to go or it would be AWOL and he could do some jail time. |

Working with hazardous waste is dangerous regardless of where he is. However, he will be in a war zone, thus increasing the odds of being hurt or killed. Nojob is worth that, not as a civilian anyway. Money is useless if he gets killed.
With his skills, I imagine he can find work here in the US that will pay well. I'd suggest he look at those options more closely. Best Wishes and good luck. |

Honestly, I think he should get A LOT of money - can't say how much b/c if it's the government, it could go either way.
I feel that things are very unstable there. Even though our media seems to report all that is happening, I don't believe we get the full picture. I would be afraid for him.
And hazardous waste? With the unstable nature of the country and then handling hazardous waste, well, I don't think I would want him to take the job.
But that is just me. My husband restores classic cars and I worry for him every day simply due to the tools he uses. Maybe I'm just too much of a worrier.
In any case, if he decides to take it, he should ask for a lot!
Good luck and I hope you and he make a good decision that you are both happy and at peace with.
Happy New year! I hope it is the best you guys have had yet, and I hope every year gets better for you both. It certainly has for us. We are blessed. Hugs and all the best!!! |

The area called the "green zone" is relatively safe( if politicians and the press go there on a regular basis, you can deturmine that, lol) . Look online to check out what other people with his job title are getting paid. It should give you a good idea on how much he should get. |

Risk your life for the almighty $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Do you love your husband? Give him a long kiss goodbye and ask yourself "Will the money be worth it if he's gone?" We have hazardous waste and materials in the USA where we don't behead the handlers.

wow. If you have to ask...very unsafe. Only you can value the compensation for risking your lives. |

No amount is enough to work with hazardous waste and materials. To do so in a war zone makes it much more dangerous.
Seriously, he should think about it long and hard. I would want at least $500,000 per year to die. |
