My husband is deploying in October. What are some things I can do now to prepare?

I know it might seem silly, but honestly if I start planning stuff now (yes, I'm one of those kind of people :) it will really help me deal with it much better. I'm trying to hold it together for his sake. What are some things I can take care of now? Just for a little insight-I'll be moving back home, right next to an aviation base, and I'm 5 months pregnant, with a 2 year old. Thanks for your help.
Additional Details
I handle all the household stuff, from finances to yes, even mowing our tiny strip of yard-we live on base. :) So I've got that down pat.

unless you actually have orders, dont be certain that he is going to leave. My husband was supposed to deploy literally like 6 other times before he actually did. Just be sure to have ALL of the POA's, your vehicle(s) all checked out, bills in order, all of your SS cards, birth certificates, marriage license, copies of orders, copy of SGLI, copies of wills for both of you, make sure your bank accounts in order, & allotments if you need them. And if you dont already, try to have computers for the both of you. It makes it alot easier to communicate. Best Wishes!!!

Pet, Hopefully you are the one in charge of the bills, as it will be easier for the whole fam if you are. Practice doing everything on your own, and not asking your husband for help. Whatever you rely on him for now (from a help around the house perspective) start doing those for yourself.
The one thing that you will find is that it is hard when he leaves, and often harder when he comes back because you are used to being self-sufficient, and have to re-learn how to incorporate your husband.

My wife made aa a-z list of the things she wanted to do such as...
A- Attend an Ikebana class (we are in okinawa)
B- Bird watch in the forest
C- Complete her diving cert
D- Draw closer to God

She had one for each letter of the alphabet and finished 90% before I came home.

Best of luck to you.

Well who pays the bills now ?

You or him .

Everything he does now, you need to know how to do.

From paying the bills, to putting gas in the car, to mowing the grass.

make sure you guys get a family care plan in place just in case something were to happen to you. and make sure to just stay calm for him and yourself and most importanly your children!!

You are going to need a power of attorney. That is a huge thing. Make it a general one that will last the whole time he is gone and will allow you to do everything on his behalf. He can get one for you on base for free from the Jag office. Make sure you have a cell home phone and answering machine. They call when they can call so the more places he can try to reach you the better.. In case of emergencies know they number to the red cross they can contact him if there is a need for him to take emergency leave. Reasons like a death in the family or if you get really sick god forbid, but its important. Know the number to the FRG. family readiness group and kow who the advisor is from his unit. Make sure you know how to pay the bills ect. Best to find some good friends, like wives of the men in his unit it will help. Get a hobby that will make it easier. I scrapbook everything that happens when mine is gone. Makes a good gift too for when he comes home. I'll try to think of more things.. bigger things... let you know if I think of any get that power of attorney!

I think you are unnecessarily stressing yourself out. Just make sure you have a power of attorney and know how to handle running a home and family by yourself.
