If his family isn't with him, he's considered a geographic bachelor and would have to live in the barracks.
The BAH would be needed at home for the family.
My husband was in Germany when we got married. He was a geographic bachelor and lived in the barracks while the BAH we received was based on my location.
I dont know why your sis doesnt want to go, but hope the other answerers dont jump to weird conclusions. I didnt move to Germany with my husband because I was in college and wasnt going to drop out of school to go live in Germany for a year. There are MANY reasons the wives dont want to move overseas. |

If she lives on base housing, then yes when he PCS's to Germany, she will lose her house. She will have to move off base.
If she already lives offbase then she can still live there. She will still receive BAH for the area she is living in when he goes to Germany. She is not required to go to Germany. However, the chance is that he still might have to do a long tour in Germany if he already has orders that state "accompained" because they use that to decide where to place him in Germany. He will have to speak to his Commander once there in germany to make sure that his time there is a short tour (1 year) and not a long one (3 years).
She will not receive any COLA or Family Separation Pay, however. And if he lives in the Barracks, he will lose BAS because they will give him a meal card to eat.
Also I have been to Germany and I have seen many soldiers whose wives were not there with them and/or choose to EROD back to the States and the soldiers were allowed to move into the Barracks and their wives received BAH once they got back stateside. |

Listen, if he moves, and she doesn't, he will receive BAH for her stateside location. HE WILL NOT GET OHA. (Overseas Housing Allowance). He will be allowed to live in the barracks as a geo-bachelor, provided there is space and the command authorizes it. (I have never seen them not authorize it, btw).
Here are the regs:
AR 210-50 Housing
AR 614-30 Overseas Assignments
AR 55-45
***He will not receive COLA for her, nor family sep, which is for deployment purposes only!*** |

For him to get accompanied orders she would have to undergo a medical and dental screening. if he chooses to stay unaccompanied then he will not get housing in Germany, he will get barracks. Unaccompanied orders are 2 years compared to 3 years at accompanied orders.
They also have to be offering the option of unaccompanied orders. If they are not and it is accompanied orders then he will not get BAH or Family Separation.
Now when he transfers if they are currently residing in military housing she will most likely have to move. Some PPV companies are allowing families to stay if the AD member has unaccompanied orders. But not all are doing it, it depends on teh demand for housing and where it is located. |

yes. If he has accompanied orders to Europe he will NOT be able to live in Military family housing if she does not move with him. also he CANNOT live in the Barracks. he would get OHA for a place in town( which is the exact amount of rent) so he wouldn't have any extra to provide housing for her back in the states. he will ALSO NOT GET:
Family separation*(her choice to stay behind) and no COLA for her( again she is not living there).
also she will NOT be permitted to stay in base housing stateside and he will NOT be able to get BAH for her. |

So Basically the reason for her not going is
so that her Husband can support your Mother
& Father...it is Not his responsibility...
Talk about using People...
Is that the reason she Married him ???
What young women will do to milk money
out of Soldier...
I would be Divorcing Her Butt in a second...
If I knew him I would lend him the Money...
To divorce her...asap... |

yes if it is found out that he doesn't have his family there and has family housing then yes. He will also be considered on a non command sponsored tour and possibly have his tour shortened, he will then move into the barracks, BEQ or BOQ, depending on rank. He will also more than likely lose BAS and be required to have a meal card and eat at the DFAC |

Since there are clear reasons why she needs to stay behind, her hubby should go to his command and explain. They will not change his orders, but they can help him get things set up for her. If they are in base housing now, yes she will have to give up the unit. Only dependents of active duty stationed on/near that base are eligable for housing...since he would be moving to a new base, she would not be able to stay. They will however be eligable for BAH, although the amount may depend on what they decide to do with her spouse's orders and where he would live. If he is able to live in a dorm and the military supports her need to stay behind, BAH would be full dependent rate. If he lives in a dorm and the military won't support her staying behind, it would be differential BAH (dependent rate minus single rate BAH..basically to "pay" for his dorm room). However, if there are no dorms available for his rank (usually past E5) and he has to live off base, he will only get dependent rate BAH for where he is living. That money would have to pay to support both households..they will not increase it or pay for two seperate locations. The only way to know what will happen is for him to sit with his command and get things going. |

Your sis should go with her husband. Yes he will lose family housing. Why would she not want to go with her husband? Sounds like marriage problems |

Tell your sister don't come...stay at home...he will still get BAH based on where she lives...when you come overseas...instead of BAH you get COLA ...so she shoud stay behind...don't keep quitting your jobs military spouses to follow behind these Army guys ..its not worth it...live your own life you will be happier...and you can keep your independence. |
