All 18 year old Males must register with Selective Service.
While the purpose is to be registered in case there is a draft, It is not only during the time of a draft but at all times.
Don't worry though. I doubt we will have a draft anytime soon. only in the case of a major catastrophic war ( Iraq isn't) like World War Two would we ever again have a draft.
An All Volunteer force is one of our greatest strengths |

Yes. He has to register for the draft. There hasn't been a draft since the Vietnam war, so I wouldn't worry too much about being called to duty. |

It is called the selective service and yes all 18 year old males have to register. It's not the draft or a contract to join the military. What it does is build a base of names of young men who are old enough to serve in case there is ever an emergency and we do have to have a draft. |

The selective service is still in effect...so have him do it or he'll face legal sanctions. |

he can do it online as well. It is for Selective Service, and if he doesn't he will not be eligible for any federal loans, such as school loans.
Has nothingto do witha possible draft( which will NEVER be reinstated anyway) |

All males still have to go register. The post office does still carry the paperwork they need. It is not for the draft, it is for the census bureau and so the US knows how many men are eligible if the need for a draft does come up again.
I am not sure if they still have to carry anything with them to prove they have done it so ask at the post office. |

My time was that of the draft, but I believe you are right, all males when turn 18 have to register with Selective Service, which could be done at the Post Office |

I believe you still have to get one even though there is not a draft right now incase a national emrgency requires the draft to be reinstated they dont have to go around and find all the males aged 18-25 then. |

I am almost 100% that was only during the time of the draft. He should not be required to register with the government at this time as there is not currently (thank goodness) a draft in effect. |
