My spouse needs a physical to go to korea?
|
I am s SGT in the army and I might be stationed in Korea soon. I want to bring my wife. I know she has to pass a physical in order to accompany me. Has anyone had this exam yet. Could you tell me what they checked for. Thankyou

It is a standard physical including a Pap smear done within the last 6 months. She needs to have hte paperwork for that. Along with her medical file and it goes before the doctor or board. It is to check to make sure she doesn't have any conditions, problems, etc.. that cannot be handled by the medical clinic/hospital there, something within the past 5 or so years. Sometimes things like anxiety, depression can mean that they cannot go with you to some locations.
She would also need a dental exam to make sure all major fillings, extracts, etc.. are done as well. |

No so much a physical, but a medical records clearance. If she hasn't been to the doc in a while for a general check up, she may want to do that. The medical review board will read her records, beginning to end, looking for anything and everything that may come up as an issue in Korea. The availability of intense medical care is limited at best when it comes to dependants stationed anywhere overseas. So, they just want to catch things and make sure that certain medical issues don't get sent where they can't be cared for. After the records review, she will actually have to have a face to face with them, and go over any questions or concerns they might have. Everything is then forwarded to the gaining medical facility for them to review. They have 1-2 weeks to get a response back to you for approval or disproval.
There is no set list of things they look for. It really varies upon location. |

It is a basic command sponsorship physical. You need to contact your base medical dept and/or personnel and get the correct paper work.
I was a Corpsman and helped with those types of physicals. Mostly they make sure that she doesn't have any sever medical conditions that the base in Korea can not treat.
For instance Diabetes. (just an example). If she needed insulin and had trouble controlling it. Maybe she also has hypertension (high blood pressure). . . They will make note of it and ask the medical dept in Korea if they had the ability to treat someone if they had a diabetic emergency or if they were at risk for heart attack or stroke.
But usually it is a screening test and they make sure that she will have all the immunizations to protect her from getting sick.
They do a pap/pelvic exam for female deponents.
They do a blood work up for the usual stuff
They also ask pertinent medical questions.
If she is healthy then there shouldn't be any trouble. It is a little bit of a process, but most bases can handle it because they do it all the time. |

She will probably be required to get innoculations for certain diseases, (small pox, polio, diptheria, teatanus, etc.) |

you cannot begin the overseas screening until you have orders in hand.
Minimum requirements include being up to date on shots, a PAP smear less than six months old and dental exam less than a year old. |
