I am in Maryland and I am planning on joining the National Guard after I am enrolled in Community College for 2 years and to a Normal College(A 4 year college but I would only be there for 2 years) for 2 years.
After getting my 4 year degree I want to join the Regular Army.
I have several questions
1> Is it possible/feasible to be in the National Guard and community college/college at the same time?
2> Would my rank from the National Guard transfer to the Regular Army
3> How long is the contract for 11B in the National Guard
4> Would I skip basic training if I joined the Regular Army after the National Guard?

1.) you definitely can be in the national guard and go to school at the same time, theres actually a lot of state specific funds to help guardsmen pay for school, and since your two week obligation will be in the summer, you won't miss the main school year. I've been offered some incentives that might allow you to be non-deployable for two years to concentrate on school, but they may not apply because I'm prior service...
2.) As far as I know you keep your rank. My buddy got fast tracked to E-4 after basic, and went active from the reserves with the same rank. (If you're going to have a degree, why not go officer? The pay's a lot better, and you do less stupid joe sh*t...)
3.) A recruiter will need to tell you the specific terms of contracts their offering, but I've generally seen three-to-six year options.
