I just enlisted as a Hospital Corpsman. I am a 24 year old female with a college degree. I enlisted because I want to serve, see the world, and get practical experience.
What can I expect?
I'm excited but don't quite know what will be involved. Any information would be appreciated!

If your really lucky you will be stationed at a naval hospital or even a ship but due to the current climate many corpsman are forced to go FMF Fleet Marine Force which means after A school in Chicago you will go to San Diego to train with Marines where you will be assigned to a platoon and be there on field doctor while in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait etc.. But being a female I highly doubt they will make you do that. Good luck |

Unless you're very lucky you can expect to get stuck in a Naval Hospital someplace like San Diego, Norfolk or Washington, DC.
********It's a fact of life, most new female HM's go to Naval Hospitals for their first tour.
Here's what you do.... When you get to HM "A" School you tell the Command Master Chief, your class adviser and anybody else who will listen that you want to get stationed overseas or on a unit that deploys. Tell them you'd love sea duty because you want to travel. Tell them early and often. Tell them if you wanted San Diego you'd have joined the Air Force. |

You'll love it. but expect to be called "pecker checker" and "peter reader" alot. |

you can expect many possibilities. not necessarily a naval hospital, possibly a ship, squadron, Seabee Battalion, Fleet Marine Force unit, and maybe a few other possibilities. i would suggest you go to corpsman.com they always have some good info, ran by all corpsmen. |
