Navy Questions: Trying to make my final decision..?

How many people die in the navy a year due to war related causes?? What would be smarter for me to go to college for 4 years and try ro get my degree or go to the navy im a 22 year old male who's struggling right now... Im considering the navy, but scared something will happen to me and i'll never be able to see my son again, I hear the navy is not as safe as people think because they also go to war.. I know all the good things about the navy but people seem to hide and not say much about the bad stuff so anybody whose not scared to tell the truth please respond to this with your advice for me and truthfulness.. WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF JOINING THE NAVY.. What can happen? What has happened I know all the good stuff now tell me the bad thank you.. Navy vets and current sailors.

Unless your an EOD, or a SEAL, Then your gonna be pretty safe. But the truth is you won't see your son much. The Navy deploys a lot. You will be at sea a lot. 6 or 7 months at a time.

My opinion, join the Air Force. It's probably safer. And you will be able to see your son more.

Honestly if the dangers of the Navy bother you then it would be best to go to college for now. All branches of the military have dangers although the Navy and Air Force are the "safer two" but they still have dangers. There are however dangers in any job...I was cashier at a grocery store and got robbed at gunpoint. The Navy also has long deployments so there will be long periods of time that you won't get to see your son.

"I hear the navy is not as safe as people think because they also go to war"
The Navy is a branch of the military, of course we go to war.
There are tons of benefits associated with the Navy, however if your not willing to defend this country, dont join.

Bad stuff that could happen will depend on which job(rate) you decide.
Obviously some jobs are more inherently dangerous.
You may be deployed on a ship from little as 2 weeks to 9 months, which leaves you missing your family and friends.
You may get orders where you don't find interesting.

Go to college if your able to, if you cant, try out the Navy. You said you know the benefits, so I wont get into that.

If you have more specific questions, let me know.

hey man its a big decision to join the navy and you must have all the facts. I understand where your at because i was there 8 years ago and i was 32 years old. I also have kids. I joined submarines and have never been in any war related danger or any danger at all. still spend time with my kids and wife when i am not out to sea.
the benefits out way the risk of joining. You will be so different when you put that uniform on for the first time. proud and respected by all. your kids will look up to you for sure. So don't let this opportunity pass you by. start your future today.

You going to War:

Presently, though this could change if the Navy has its way, Individual Augmentee (IA) is volunteer only. When someone says they are going IA, they are going out forward on a mission normally would not do. These places vary from Tampa to Iraq/Afghanistan. However in order to go IA, you must volunteer. If the Navy has its way, you would have to do a tour while PCSing. Presently they keep meeting fierce resistance from traditional sailors, and hence its not been fully implemented despite its threats.

Out to sea: Terrorists are out there. The USS Cole was hit by terrorists and we lost a few good men there. Its a cold reminder, that we are no longer safe when we're out to sea. However, compared to the risks the Army, Air Force and Marine Corp face, we are still relatively safe. Most occupations, will face little to danger. Don't forget about shipboard hazards though, a flight deck is one of the most hazardous workplaces in the US.

Just remember NAVY: Never Again Volunteer Yourself

my uncle was in the navy and he flew helicopters and worked on aircraft carriers. He said the aircraft carrier was boring and didnt do anything except float around. He did go to columbia one time flying a helicopter and busted some caps. Hope this helps. Go NAVY! BEAT ARMY!
