Need to settle an argument between my father and recruiter?

I’m leaving for boot camp on Sunday and will be arriving on Monday during the evening. When I get to Great Lakes it’s going to be in the mid 30’s. When I found that out I told my father who said I should bring a really heavy jacket to keep me warm, but when I brought it up to my recruiter he said not to bother because I would be issued military clothes pretty much as soon as I got off the bus. Does anyone know who is correct?

You will go to CIF (Central Issue Facility)within a week. Within one day you will get at least PT Gear (work out uniform) I would take the jacket. Worst case is that you will have to put it in your personal bag and you will get it back when you graduate. |

Yes you'll get issued your stuff pretty quick. However that being said, you're also going to be standing around waiting on that for quite a while. I'd personally take a freakin jacket. |

Listen to they one guy that has been there and take the jacket, gloves, a beanie. like he says worst case it gets bagged up and given back when you are done. WTF do Army or Marines know about Great Lakes.
I very much doubt they will do a full issue as soon as you get off the bus. I was in civi's for 3 days' when I went to Army Basic.

Bring a coat.
Why?
Because sometimes new recruits do not get issued uniforms immediately. My company spent 5 days in the same civvies.
I was lucky to be in San Diego instead of great mistakes.
When you get your issue, all your civvies will go into a cardboard box that you will not see again until after you graduate. |

Listen to your Father...
You best have a Heavy Jacket...
They are calling for More Snow and Rain...
It can take days before you get your Navy Gear.
If you are from the South...
It will feel like the middle of Winter for you...
Temps are still in the 32- 55 area... |

Your recruiter is correct of course. They will issue you everything you need, and even a few things you dont....haha. Good luck though!!! |
