I have a essay about the evil nature of humans and one of my points I mention is humans ability to destroy life as we know it. On the history channel documentary about life after humans they mention this so I was wondering if any one nation has the nuclear capabilities to do this. Also the use of nuclear arms is regulated by both NATO and the UN, right?
Additional Details
I already knew no one could really control a mad man and that no non terrorist nation would ever use nuclear arms unless fired upon. I just needed a bit of info about stuff like this since my English teacher is "realist" in other words he is pessimistic.

UN pretends to regulate nuclear arms, but they are powerless to actually enforce anything.
Several countries have the power to destroy earth and its live as we know it. USA, Russia, China, possibly a few others.

There just aren't that many nuclear weapons.
If you wanted to destroy the state of california completely.
It would take over 1,391nuclear weapons.
The average nuke has a blast area of 114 sq miles.
California has 158,647 sq miles.
people tend to go overboard when they talk about nuclear weapons.
The forget, there have been over 500 above ground nuclear test inside the US alone already. |

America alone has the ability to nuke every square inch of the earth two times over. And Russia has even more nukes than we do. So yes, either Russia or America has the potential to completely whipe out the world. But, this has never happened and it never will. No matter how much two countries hate each other, no country is willing to nuke any other nation because it would be suicide. The only thing we have to fear is nuclear proliferation. |

Ask China what their nuclear policy is?
Why does Iran want to become a nuclear power?
No one controls an mad man and no law is made that can not be broken. You can see how much control the rest of the world has on decisions made in North Korea. |

Both the US and Russia have the capability to end all life on the planet many times over. NATO does not regulate( NATO is largely funded by the US and was their response to the Warsaw pact countries (Soviet led). The UN has no power over the nuclear weapons. |
