Odd for A Former Marine to Join the Air Force?

The Military is a good career with many options. He may have been enlisted went to College and went OCS in the AF because of an opportunity he had. There are many reasons for changing branches, that is only one possibility. There could be many reasons.

I got out of the Army got a good GS job but still joined the Guard, just because I wanted to.

Its not about not being able to hack it in the Marines. Anybody can hack it, its nothing special.

But some jobs and fields are not offered in the Corps.

I was in the 75th Ranger Regiment, after I got out. I honestly had a hardcore interest in joining the Coast Guard. Nothing wrong with it. Just different.

His options were probably better in the USAF. He joined the Marines and used his GI bill to go to college to better his lifes out come.

I don't think that's all that odd. Once you've done your thing in one branch- why not try another.

Unfortunately, when a Marine grows a brain and starts to think for himself, he tends not to make a good Marine anymore.

He probably started wondering why he was living in crappy military housing, being treated like the business end of a mule, being sent on exceedingly long deployments with decreasing home time... any number of things.

Either that, or he just wanted to be among the best.

My T.I. in USAF Basic Training was a former USMC D.I.

ive seen alot of marines switch over to the army because they wanted to keep their family going.. but i would switch over after 4 years, it would just be a better life style.. i mean gees air force people get paid to live in army barracks.. so that tells you something.. and besides if you ever wanted to get out.. you would have some skill to survive.. thats why i am reclassing in january

To Kaz, man you got it all wrong. The AF is the best branch PERIOD!

The reason your buddy might want to join the AF is because it takes the best care of its people. Hands down...

I've also heard of Marines joining the Air Force. My best guess is that they want to stay in the US military but can not make it in the US Marines. Can't strive to be the best, join the easiest. They need to choke themselves!

I just separated from the Air Force. I have seen this happen many many times. It's just a good change of pace and possibly more cash.
