(identity withheld) is right. The Air Force especially is most like a normal job. You have to wear the uniform of course and take orders, but for the most part as long as you do your job everyone leaves you alone. One day with the M-16 and live ammo was all. all the rest of my time was reading text books and wrenching on aircraft. There's all kinds of office jobs there. You might even get stationed in a pleasant place-like Hawaii.

I don;t know about the Navy, but the AF is a lot more hands-on now than they used to be- greater emphasis on real combat training. Airmen are seeing more and more duties that put them in the middle of firefights. Please stay out of my service.

You would not be beaten or sacrificed as a human shield, and the Army is not about violence. And yes, you would be disqualified with a history of suicide attempts. You and your sister both have your heads screwed on backwards.

You may change your mind about what the Army does when you get in. I made my best friends in the military. Much better than the self absorbed people I met in college and civilian life. And then you get see the other side of the story about what this country does. The USA isn't all bad like some pundits try to make you believe.

The military deals with life and death issues, personal fears, bravery and cowardice, brutaliy and heroism...more than you will ever learn in a 9 - 5 job.

As for suicide attempts, don't bring it up.

Instead of criticizing, start looking up jobs you would like to do. If you are truly such a pacifist, some cool jobs are medical of course. Patriot missile people save lives by shooting missiles out of the sky, they don't go after living targets.

As for death, well, you are just going to have to face that some day, might as well do it now. You can't avoid it forever. many troops faced serious combat, only to die at home in a motorcycle accident, so if it's your day, well guess what.....

You would be joining for all the wrong reasons. And with your beliefs it would be a bad idea. Keep looking for a job, and try to improve your situation.

Not all pacifists hold America's Armed Forces in complete disdain and quite a few choose to serve. Being a pacifist does not mean you have to be useless, but it is obvious how you feel about the Armed Forces so I can't believe you would do well in the military. But you are welcome to join and there are jobs where you would be unlikely to be engaged by the enemy. Even then you would be free to hide behind better people than yourself who realize that some things in life are worth fighting for.

Your "history" of suicide attempts demonstrates a psychological weakness that would make you ineligible to join the military. And the fact that you have a "history" of this proves you lack conviction in the things you attempt. Both of these are not traits we want in the Army

Pacifism is Freedom's welfare. The Armed Forces is not a last resort for losers. We take people who add to the security of the Nation and believe their nation is worth fighting for.

If you are a socialist pacifist(AKA COMMUNIST) why would you wanna join or serve in an Army that its values are against Communism?

And you and your sister have the wrong idea about the Army,You are no human shield, actually get yourself educated before you pass false judgments on the Greatest Army, and so you know the US Military is currently operating in many countries around the world performing humanitarian missions not killing people.

The wars in IRAQ and Afghanistan is the war on terror we are fighting that war for you so you can have all those freedoms you enjoy. and trying to avoid another terrorist attack on US soil.

So I would say that the Army is not for you, do green peace or something, but not the US military.

Your idea of the Army is bass ackwards my friend. Our job isnt to fight it's to maintain the peace, but whatever. As far as using it to gain a dividend, you'd be better off joining the peace corps. I only say this because everyone that I know who didn't join the Army to serve, but rather for money and college, rather hated it and grew tired of it, quite fast. Most of them are chaptered out now that I think about it too. And those suicide attempts will seriouslt but a hamper on your joining any service.

The only soldiers that I know that have died are those that try to be heroes and run into the middle of the street like Rambo with guns a blazin'.

As a conscientious objector you are not enlistment eligible.

Maybe you should think about the peace corps instead.

There are non-violent jobs. I hate the way the so-called 'War on Terror' is being handled as well, but now that Obama is in power you won't be sent off to die for nothing.
