Outside Community College while on active duty in the Air Force?

As long as you are allowed to leave the base, there aren't any rules at the community college preventing you from doing so while on active duty.

Most professors are pretty reasonable about working around your schedule as well.

Yes you can.. I did. Most local community colleges will have classes on the base.

Certainly and you will usually find several holding classes on base after normal duty hours for some programs. The Air Force is very supportive of its people seeking higher education as long as they have their training done first and it does not interfere with the duty schedule. I mention that because depending on your supervisor and job they may want you to get your five skill level first before pursuing higher education. Commanders and supervisors must approve you attending courses but I have never seen someone refused unless they were deficient in their job and the training for it or there was some kind of a conflict. Even then I have seen supervisors and Commanders bend over backwards to try and rework the duty schedule or get someone to a point in their job and training so that they can then enroll and pursue a college education.

There will be time to take classes and work on your degree as an active duty person. Time may be limited your first year or 2, depending on how well you do on your CDCs. But, taking classes and getting a good education is always encourgaged. There is TA available, that will cover the cost of the class, up to a set max. (Most colleges fall well within the max) Your expense will be the books. Also, many universities and colleges actually offer classes on base, aimed at the active duty folks, so you don't have to try to get to the campus for classes.

Do plan on it taking at least twice as long as normal to complete a degree, though. There is no way you can full load and work. Also, the base education office can get you info on CLEP and DANTES testing that will allow you to test out of some classes yet still recieve the credit.

You most certainly can....I have two associates, I got them from a community college while working towards my bachelor's. I loved the community college I went to...it was much better organized etc than the university I eventually graduated from.
