Over 600,000 people died in the Civil War, why do liberals cry about our Iraq body count?

I was in Iraq as a combat medic in 2004, and it seems like the people that aren't fighting want us to leave. Vietnam was the same way. Every one of us knew what we were getting in to, I guess they want to wait until some terrorist sets off a suitcase nuke in one of our cities. Additional Details Josh, read the rest, not just the question. I am saying people do not have the guts to stick with something anymore.

The left wing wackos want peace at any price. They forgot about what happened at Munich in 1938. |

No, no, no....you're missing our point...
It's not so much the body count as it is that we don't believe in the war, period, because we do not think that this one is ethical. Yes, the numbers do bother some of us, and we do get upset about them. We are more upset about the actual war, though. Even many liberals who do believe in war...and yes, they DO exist... dn't believe in THIS war. We feel that our government has lied to us, and we do not feel that the govenment has acted justly or appropiately in its dealings with other nations.
I want to thank you for being a combat medic; my dad was one in Vietnam, and I think that combat medics are extremely, extremely, extraodinarily tough and brave people. You're trying to protect all of us here AND in other places, so please don't think that it's not that liberals don't appreciate you. We do; it's just that we don't really support the war. |

The traditional American view treats every individual as a valuable being. Do you think the families of the 9 heroes killed yesterday are suffering grief and sadness? Of course they are. I have compassion for each trooper who has given of himself for this nation.
As a Persian Gulf War veteran, I support each and every one of our nations military. My concern relates to what I perceive as a lack of planing, a lack of a defined goal in Iraq and the continuing carnage. I kindly suggest that you might need to read more about the Civil War. President Lincoln was very saddened regarding the loss of life. General Grant was often criticized for the loss of life under his command. |

because at the civil war you guys were fighting for the freedom of your OWN country, while in Iraq you fight agains "terror" in general... besides, any person lost during a war is an irreperable loss for us all:( |

Well over 600,000 have died in Iraq so far. Some sources believe close to 1 million have died. Several million people also died in Vietnam. Thats why Liberals are unhappy |

The Civil War had a purpose you ninny.
Just like Vietnam, this war is pointless and cannot be "won".
So you're essentially saying that because 600,000 soliders haven't died yet that we should just ignore it?
Take off your dress and go enlist if you're so gd sold on this war. |

Let's see when 600,000 American troops dies. Maybe you'll come to your senses and question why Bush started this illegal war. The whole world wanted peace while you and your kind continue to glorify wars. |

I have read all kinds of numbers, comments and points of view and the following is a "Shortened Version" of it.
1. WW2 - 8000 soldiers died each week
2. Viet Nam - 54,000 died in 10 years.
3. IN 2005 - 756 murders in State of Philadelphia
4. IN 2005 - 874 murders in New York State
5. IN 2005 - 2503 murders in California
6. How many people die daily in auto accidents??
7. How many are alcohol related fatalities??
We have a mission, to keep terrorists out of America. When we left Viet Nam, in SEA, 300,000 people died in Cambodia thanks to Pol-Pot. No numbers are available for South Vite Nam, but many people "disappeared" without a trace.
The liberal left cant stand the fact that America is standing up for itself, and blames America for all the troubles in the world.
They wont be happy until we have blood flowing down our streets from suicide bombers, car bombers or a dirty bomb. then they can continue to point fingers and blame conservatives.

I'm tired of labels. A large and overwhelming number of Americans want us out of Iraq, liberal, independent, conservative, green, blue and yellow. A large and growing
number of legislators want us out of there. Former
generals say the future is bleak.
There was a genuine purpose for fighting the Civil War. Each
side was trying to preserve something and it involved
the United States of America. No one, can see a clear reason to stay in Iraq. People talk of the terror threat that will
grow when we leave. Well the terror threat has escalated
with our presence there. There is nothing wrong or abnormal about wanting our men back home when the reason for
their being there at this point is so totally unclear. |

I think that matter is debatable, Doc. Many of the young men in the Civil War and in the war in Vietnam did NOT know what they were getting into nor did they completely understand the political nature of the war they were fighting. |

Human beings are not expendable like bullets. People have died. Think for yourself. Don't listen to the **** George W. tells you. Form your own opinion. Liberals don't cry, but Mothers, Fathers and Orphans do |

Is there a reason all you "support the troops" chuckleheads like to say "Hey look at these apples, now look at these badgers..they're the same thing so why do you complain when I tell you to stop thinking and obey me?"
If you people had one reasonable, intelligent reason to let our troops keep sitting there and dying i would listen, of course that would require that you people also listen..which would never happen because you don't want fellow countrymen..you want mindless drone slaves to do your bidding. You hate+despise freedom (see I can make stuff up and claim it is a fact just like you). |

It is quite apparent that the educational system in the united states it failing its students in almost every manner. The sad part is that the term “civic responsibility” is probably foreign to most young peoples vocabulary. Thanks for serving, I salute you for making a difference rather than sitting at home waiting on mom to drive you to your job.
"I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. . . . You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word. It is victory. Victory at all costs - Victory in spite of all terrors - Victory, however long and hard the road may be, for without victory there is no survival."
- Winston Churchill, in his initial speech as Prime Minister to the House of Commons (10 May 1940) |

First of all, not "everyone" knew anything. Bush lied, just like Clinton Lied, but Bush wasn't impeached for his Lies. Do you remember them? First it was Weapons of mass destruction, then it was building a nuclear weapon, then it was the ability to build one, then it was training terrorists, then it was directly responsible for 9/11, then it was a really, really bad person, and if he didn't do anything now, he would someday.
If you recall Bush had those key phrases that stabbed like a knife to anyone who disagreed with him and his policies. If you don't back the president you are a nazi or a commie. "Cut and Run", was the next phrase, and so on and so on. Notice that these days, Bush isn't saying that he'll ever leave, only that he won't be forced into a "time table" for withdrawing.
Forget the number of dead and injured for a moment. After all, under Bush's current Budget request, the one that congress is fighting and Bush said that he'd veto in its current form. Anyway, Bush added some treats to help pay for the extra money that he is looking for. Increasing the cost of co-pay for veterans using the VA system. Increasing the out of pocket expenses for medications issued by the VA, reducing the eligible costs and increasing the requirements to veterans in order to get into the VA. Nice guy...asking for money for the troops, and taking it out of their pockets at the same time.
Ask yourself just one question....AND make an honest effort to answer it.
Assuming that we are in Iraq for a specific goal, if we stay there a year, ten years, 100 years, will we accomplishe that goal?
If your answer is democracy, that will never happen. If you say free of terrorists, that will never happen. Free anything....that will never happen, so what is it? Keeping Iran and Turkey and the other countries from gaining control of the oil that sits under Iraq. |

It's not the liberals, it's the media making a big deal of it. Get the media out of wars and let them get on with it. |

Because in view of the advances in technology today, there should be almost close to zero casualties on America's side.
A lot of American died because of friendly fire.
And this war was not fought for the right reasons, therefore the deaths are unjust.
300+ people may not be a lot to you, but that's because you lack the ability to empathize.
If the ones dead is one of your loved ones, would it be too few, too little to protest?
I guess that really is the fundamental differences between a democrat and a republican.
One is able to empathize, and think for others, while the other only thinks selfishly for himself. |

I want to know why they didn't show all of this concern before the war. Lots of soldiers died before 9/11 and not a peep out of the peace movement. Makes me think it is all political. |

I totally agree with you. It's all hypocrisy and media hype in Iraq. People (and mostly innocent people) do die when fighting terrorism. I am in total support of US in this regard. This is the same thing happening in Kashmir, India. Terrorists from the other side (Pakistan) have killed and have been killing lots and lots of people everyday but India never stopped fighting them. I say, just don't worry and keep on moving and i hope, one day, these terrorists are wiped out of the world. Let's see what this crazy Iran brings as a surprise to the world... |
