I really want to be a Navy SEAL, but my vision is bad. I'm not sure what my vision is exactly, but I'm pretty much positive it doesn't fall in the required range. So I did some research, and found out that if I get PRK sugery, I have to wait three month before BUD/s. My question is, after basic training, can I get the surgery? Or is there a wait, and if so, about how long would that be? Finally, if the wait before BUD/s is three months (if I'm wrong, please correct me), what do I do for those three months? I'd appreciate any answers you can give me.

BEFORE you spend the money...
First, check with an ophthalmologist to see if whatever visual problem you have can be treated by surgery.
Second, check with a SEAL/SWCC recruiter or mentor to see if the required surgery will be disqualifying.
Diving to as little as 100 feet can increase the pressure to which your eyes are subjected to about four times that at sea level. If the surgery weakens your eyes, they could conceivably rupture... not something to which one might be expected to look forward. The Navy doesn't want that to happen. If they think it might, you're going to be disqualified. |
